So my neighbors across the street have about 8 people living in one house and just about every one of them use my driveway at some point to turn around and go the other day.  Today, I happened to be out there and one of them decided to pull this stunt and I gave them the WTF look and shook my head.  The driver proceeds to get out of his truck to be confrontational and ask me if I had a problem with him using my driveway to turn around.  I said Yes, I do, he then proceeded to ask if I was serious and I said "its pretty rude".  He then told me I could go fuck myself and got back in his truck and left.

Am I the only one that thinks turning around in someone else's driveway rude? I realize that sometimes it can't be helped or every once in the while isn't a big deal, but when it becomes a habit, I get really annoyed.

It's rude and not their property.   Only a bit is probably considered an easement if that.

Chain it up.

ETA, even with a large and long pickup I go out of my way NOT to use driveways to turn around.   It sets off alarms in people's heads un-necessarily.

Get an old clunker-car that runs just far enough to block them out, and backs up enough to let you and yours in and out. A rolling GATE.

I always went/go condition orange anytime someone pulled into my driveway, no one except a delivery man has cause to be pulling into my driveway.

ETA: Unannounced, I expect friends etc to call before showing up.

why does everyone on this site seem to hate their neighbors?  I live in a very cookie cutter neighborhood and I know 15 of the 20 home owners on my cove by first name. We all get along.

And if we ever had some kind of emergency or anything like that this is what would happen......

Hermit?

Lived in the country for years and had people drive all the way up my driveway which was several hundred meters and then back out and leave when they saw someone was home.

Had people steal gas from my car, fucking around in the woods behind my house at night, etc.

I use driveways to turn around. I have no problem with my driveway being used for that either.

That said, your neighbors sound like low-lifes, and you need to emplace spike strips at the end of your driveway to deter such nonsense

I don't see it as being particularly rude but I avoid doing it myself, in case the homeowner is a wild-eyed whackjob that will come running down the driveway at me to exact his revenge for my usurping his property rights.

This is the first time I've actually talked to any of them.  Normally I just ignore them using my driveway and probably will continue to do so, but this was literally right in front of me while I was doing some work.

I have a 500 ft driveway.  Someone using the first 10 feet to turn around is no biggie.  If they come past the Private Drive/No Trespassing/No Soliciting sign, then I get edgy and the trained attack barn cat starts getting that crazy eye.

The occasional oh damn I missed my turn doesn't bother me. Someone who lives there and is too dumb to figure out what they need to do to be able to come and go without entering my drive regulalry would piss me off. Possibly enough for the placement of something that will cause tire damage but not be horribly apparent as having been set, but more likely a nice remote control heavy gate. And blinding motion lights for the evening hours.

My driveway is 600' long.  As long as they are just at the street end doing a 3-pointer, I don't care.

I could see it being annoying if the same person was turning around in a small subdivision setting while shining his lights in your living room every evening.

Maybe park your car at the end of the driveway, or toss your dog doodoo in his yard, and see if he shakes his head.

I don't think it's a big deal but it is private property.  I try to stay off private property I have no business on.

ETA: I won't even park in front of the neighbors houses unless I have a situation with visitors and too many cars or work in the garage and driveway that precludes parking there and then I ask them.

Accidently leave a garden rake in the drive way.  Place it so that at least one tire runs over it.

Do this right at dark thirty.

ETA:  I'm pretty sure the driver really wanted me to pick a fight with him and get in a brawl.  I just casually talked to him and keep going about my business.  There are very few things where a brawl would be good, and this was not one of them.

Find out what the laws are concerning the proper posting of a no trespass sign and then post it.

Find out how to serve the dick head who wanted a fight a notice not to trespass so the next time he does he gets arrested for defiant trespass if he does, in some states defiant trespass is indictable.

Next if you follow through with any of this install a good camera system that records at night too, motion activated and watch the evidence and report back

It is rude. Especially when it is happening all the time, all day, every day, by the same group of people, and those people are not close friends.

Once in a while by someone who made a wrong turn wouldn't bother me.

Inconsiderate self centered assholes using your property as a round-about because it is convenient would bother me.

So I take it that you NEVER turned around in someone's driveway and taught your wife and children not to do it? It's a golden rule?

I would bet the last 10-15' of your drive way really isnt yours to begin with. In most places the city or the county actually has property beyond the edge of the actual road.

My part time job takes me to a lot of addresses that I have to look for, so I
have to turn around on streets a lot. When I need to do that, I pull part way into
the driveway, just enough for me to back out and around, and I do it slowly, try
to show a little regard. If I can use a driveway where nobody is home, so`s the
better. Somebody don`t like it, Sorry, man, won`t do it again, just turnin around.

Somebody uses mine, I don`t really care, just do it safely.

rdove, your neighbor was kinda out of line, and damned rude, but nobody traded
paint or bullets, was me I`d let it go

I'm in unincorporated county and the public easement/ROW is only a few feet.  Definitely not enough to turn around in.  That said I don't think it's a big deal.

No...Driveways are private property, you have every right to be annoyed by it.

I will avoid turning around in someones driveway, oftentimes going out of my way to do so (sometimes it is unavoidable however).
