If I was doing medevac in Afghanistan I would go with the Mk18 Mod 0, pretty much exactly like this one: http://www.konstipation.com/stuff/yank/seal/mk18smie4.jpg I am no operator, but it would seem a longer rifle would be more of a burden for a medevac. Probably this with an ACOG. |

I think something with 14 to 18 inch barrel for longer range and accuracy. I was thinking AK74or krink but not very good to mount optics or PEQ2 Not enough parts around for FAL Or I could bring my other rifle
http://i32.tinypic.com/2ezgxag.jpg PS the Aug is an AXR What exactly are you going to be doing? Treating the wounded? Protection for medevac? |

If you could take any weapon to Afghanistan (ie PMC) what would it be. Say you were doing medevac in Afghanistan. I would think you want something light/compact, with parts/ammo available in the region, medium range capable and reliable. I narrowed it down to 3 rifles but keep coming to the same conclusion - M4 which fits all the above criteria. Aug, M14 (w/ 4x Trijicon T21) or M4 were among my top choices - maybe AK47/74 or Para FAL Any other recommendations? http://i27.tinypic.com/29moq6d.jpg Nice collection. Take them all. |

You will most likely be wearing a sling? so a longer weapon will get in the way when treating the wounded, and you might need that second or two it takes for you to unsling the weapon to save a life. |

Is this a joke?
A. I WOULD NOT take anything I actually wanted to keep, you would most likely have serious trouble bringing it back, if you even could. B. I also absolutely would not work for a company that couldn't provide me a decent weapon, or even suggested that I could/should bring my own. |
| For Medevac, M4 or AUG would be a good choice. While the M14 is better suited to mountainous fighting, your job isn't fighting; your job is rescuing injured soldiers. You don't have to win the gunfights, only survive them long enough to get yourself and the men you're helping out. |

I would take a AK47 in 7.62x39. Honestly out of all the insurgents with AK's that I encountered I only remember one specifically having an AK74. My reason is simple, ammo, and mags. If the US military has no problem supplying the ammo, then something that takes M16/M4 mags. Now, 5.45x39 might be more common in other areas, but in the areas I was in it was 7.62x39 for the most part. Since we are talking about medevac type ops, then I would try to get a Krink, or a folding stock type AKM.
There might be times when you get called out to support just the ANA, and it would be better to use the same type of weapon they use. I also agree with one of the guys above, take something that you don't mind losing. God forbid that you get shot down, but if you did then the only ammo that might be available while you wait for the Calvary is from the dead enemy. |

As much as people train for it and think about, as far as possibly having to use a battlefield pickup when your rifle jams in the heat of battle or just running out of ammo, I have yet to hear one story of it happening in Afghanistan. Not to say that it doesnt, but it just seems extremely rare. I think people make too much of a fuss about cartridge compatibility with the enemy's. |
