tri tip + favorite can of salsa + 8 hours or so on low =

or tri tip plus beef broth and a bunch of your favorite veggies

-1 quart water
-1 large beef roast
-1 pack dried italian salad dressing mix
-1/2 jar pepperoncini peppers
-other peppers to taste, possibly including finely chopped celery, carrots, green olives, bell peppers, onion, jalapeno, habanero.....you name it.

Cook on 'high' in crock pot overnight. Serve on sub-sandwich type bread. Dip sandwich in broth for more taste (and mess). Very similar to 'italian beef' sandwiches as found in good chicago-style sandwich shops.

(venison can be substituted for beef, and onion soup mix can be substituted for italian dressing.....it's a cheap recipe; feel free to experiment)

3-4 lbs Sirloin roast (rubbed in favorite spices night before)
1 can of French Onion soup
turn on low in the AM.

Add 3 lbs small RED potatoes, a bag of baby carrots and a bag of pearl onions(peeled) or a few small vidalia onion quartered a couple hours before you eat

easy and damn good.

Burgundy beef

3 lbs sirloin cut into stew meat
2 cans Cream of mushroom soup
2 can cream of celery soup
1 can progresso French Onion soup
1 can Campbells beef stock soup
1- 1 1/2 cup burgundy wine
some freshly ground pepper
maybe some rosemary and other favorite spices

cook on low for 6-8 hours. Stir occasionally. I usually uncover it the last 1- 1 1/2 hours to let it thicken up a little

serve over tri-color Rotini noodles

Bottle of Red wine

Reason I use sirloin is because it is far more tender than round or other less marbled cuts of beef. Cock pot does a good job on shitty meats but they're still shitty cut of meat when it's all said and done.

How much stuff do you truely cook in a microwave? The reason I ask is a crock pot is like a microwave in its only good to heat stuff up that's been cooked.

Crock pots aint no way to cook meat! Meat needs to be seared & browned first. If you carmalize onions & garlic it builds on the flavore of the meat. This aint going to happen in a crock pot.

And when you add everything into the crock pot at once then leave it everything that comes out all taste the same. You will never see a crock pot in use by a good cook little lone a chef.

It was developed by an appliance company to make more profits. It has nothing to do time honored cooking methods. Just give us money and lets us show you a way to spend more time fucking off!

Nothing beat a well seasoned cast iron dutch oven. It will do much more then ruin food like a crock pot. Try and make buscuits or a pie in a crock pot.

I cook the 2 meals I listed above. Both very tasty. Since I have 2 small children involved in sports and a wife in nursing school the crock is very easy (turn on in the AM/eat in the PM) and is a much better dinner than any shit at a FF restraunt. It's also far less messy than cooking on the stove.

You should try the burgandy beef.

I eat because I'm hungry.  I cook with a crockpot because cheap/poor and time is not always plentiful.  If I want a good meal i break out the pots and pans.  When I want o make five pounds of meat easily so I can eat all week I break out the crock pot.  Its a tool like any other.  Different tools for different tasks.

Not every gun has to be a presentation piece and not every meal has to be gourmet.  Sometimes you just need something to shoot or eat.

Now more recipies please.

Go buy a big package of country style pork ribs, an onion, a couple of apples or a jar of applesauce, and a bottle of your favorite bbq sauce.  Cut up the onion and apples or open the jar, toss everything in the crockpot, and let 'er go on slow all day.  Pick out the bones, tear it up some and make some good bbq sammiches.  You might try a cup or so of apple juice instead of the apples/applesauce if you like, the apple flavor really sets off the ribs.

I like to do beans in my crockpot--go to anasazibeansdotcom, order up some of their Anasazi beans, and some of their bacon bean spice.  The Anasazi beans don't need soaking overnight, just wash 'em and dump in the package with 6-7 cups of water.  Add 3 tablespoons of the bean spice, with a chopped up onion, a couple cloves of garlic, a few chile pequin peppers, and some ham hocks, smoked pork, or a ham bone, let 'er go on slow all day.  Make some corn bread and go to town.  Anasazi beans rock, taste better'n any pintos, and have much less gas to boot.

Anything you put in a crock pot be sure to add water, and put what's being cooked in a oven bag. The water dilutes the flavors.

keep this coming! thanks guys!

and for the haters, the crock pot has its niche. iw ill break otu the pots/pans/charcoal at the necessary times.

however, being in college and having most of my time go to school and work, then money going into rent/tuition/bill/gas/ammunition/moreguns , a crockpot seems like a fair compromise. much better than eating off of some cat's ass dollar menu or having 33 cent burritos all day

Crock pots aint no way to cook meat! Meat needs to be seared & browned first. If you carmalize onions & garlic it builds on the flavore of the meat. This aint going to happen in a crock pot. You sear & brown the meat, then place in crock pot.

And when you add everything into the crock pot at once then leave it everything that comes out all taste the same. You will never see a crock pot in use by a good cook little lone a chef. I can't even guess wtf this is supposed to mean.

I know you wanted beef, and you have a few posted already, so here's a turkey recipe.

Turkey breast, stick of butter, four sticks celery, peeled onion baseball sized. teaspoon black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon thyme, two cups water.

Put water and stick of butter in crockpot, stick onion and two celery sticks inside turkey breast.  Place turkey breast in crockpot, ribside down. Sprinkle thyme and pepper over top of turkey breast.  breakup remaining celery and place around outside of turkey breast.  After about 6 hours use your injector(if you don't have one your probably a homo) to draw some of the gravy out of the crockpot and inject into the breast.  Be careful because the juice will squirt back out if you don't go slow.

Start in the morning for some great turkey at supper time, or start in the evening and let run all night for some turkey sammiches the next day.
