I need to order a couple things on amazon and need a bluetooth speaker for work by my toolbox. I want something that has good sound not tin-ey. I would like something a bit bigger than the pocket sized ones. Bonus points for it being rechargeable so i can take it outside when I have to work out there. Any one have any recommendations as there are 37,000 on amazon.

i have a bose soundlink II that ive had about 2 years or more.  sounds great, and after 2 years still holds a charge for a reasonable amount of time.  bonus that the front cover magnets closed, and folds open to make a base.

its a little bigger than the side of a paperback book.

Have a look at the Logitech UE models.

I have the smaller one which is the sizes of a tall can of coke and it's pretty darn good. Rechargeable too.

For a cheapie option, my wife uses one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L5PD5QA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00

for some school-related stuff.  Pretty happy with it so far, does Bluetooth + USB sticks + radio, recharges via USB port so any phone charger or similar will charge it.

'course I don't have anything to compare it to so YMMV

no complaints about my Beatblock and I see Dewalt has come out with a speaker only instead of charger/jobsite radio with BT..both are around $100

Got a Sony SRS-BTX300 and a Jawbone MINIJAMBOX.  Both sound great.  SONY sounds better and plays louder, has a power supply you plug into AC and will run about 8 hours on internal battery.  Jawbone sounds good and is smaller but has to charge from a USB port.  Both work as speakerphone for your cellphone.

Sony

I got this as a birthday present this year. It's small and gets LOUD. Also charges from micro USB so I can charge it on my phone charger.

I got a TDK A33 off of a Woot sale and it has been great. It's been replaced by the A34, but you might be able to find the older one for cheaper.  They are weatherproof and have great sound and battery life.  I listened to 4 albums while I was painting my deck at a fairly loud volume and has no issues with the battery.

FuGoo XL

These won't be available until September '15, but I heard a demo of one and hands down, the best sound for a bluetooth speaker I've ever heard.

30+ hour battery life, 360 degree sound, waterproof, drop tested at 3 feet, etc..............

I picked up a G-Project Boom at Target on sale for $80.  It won some awards in 2013.  It is big & loud & rugged.
I'm sure there are newer models out now that are better, but lots more $.

We have one of these too and it is impressive. I like it too because water doesn't bother it.  I sit it in my Gator and leave it there all day while I do chores outside and it is loud.  Lasts about 6-8 hours on a charge.

This has worked very well for me and is pretty inexpensive. It's not as heavy-duty as the Bose, but it's also about 85% cheaper, so that counts for something.

I just picked up this Altec Lansing Life Jacket.  Great battery life, about 40 hours, and has great weather and drop protection.  Plus it has a USB port so it will also charge your phone while playing music.  That does cut into the battery a little bit but so far I have never had either my phone or speaker drain to zero when using it for 10+ hours a day.

I was going to wait for the Fugo mentioned above, but the price was better with the same ability.  The sound of the Fugo is likely a bit better, but for just hanging around outside the altec lansing is more than capable.

Go to thewirecutter.com. Reviews on there are really good. We bought a Logitech UE mini boom from that review and we use it all the time. It's rechargeable, sound is surprisingly good and we use it by the pool for music. It's not waterproof so BY the pool, not IN the pool. And it's small.
