This is a somewhat technical description:

When you contract the flu, tiny viruses which look like microscopic millipedes only with razor sharp teeth gnaw away at the lining of the shock-absorbing pillows between your bones and all the jelly leaks out.

A virus is not a living thing (debatable I know) and definitely doesn't gnaw anything. The only thing a virus does is replicate and unfortunetly this kills your cells which in turn makes you sick and can kill you.

Your bones ache because of the immune response from your body.
