I have never used a shuttle service. We are going on a cruise that we fly into LAX a day earlier..we need transport to our hotel in san pedro. and back to lax. So how are these services? any surprises like extra charges and such??

Yes, way back near the turn of the century.  They pick you up and charge you $28.  It is worth it, it was for me anyway.  I took a zillion flights up to AK and back.

It was Shuttle Express IIRC.

not positive, but super shuttle might operate that for you..they operate a shared van service that's pretty cheap, and very reliable.

you might have to stop at a few hotels before they drop you off, but well worth it.

I dunno about LAX , but I shuttle from O'Hare to Rockford IL . Its a full sized bus, about an hour ride , and costs $18.
Really nice, clean bus too. Quiet and comfy.

+ 1 for Super Shuttle here in DFW...

Reliable, not cheap, very convenient.

I've used Super Shuttle in the past when flying out of Seattle and I was always happy with the service. Cheaper than a cab or town car service.

I've taken Super Shuttle as well as a car service to/from the airport. It saves a lot of hassle, but you might end up at the airport a couple of hours before you really want to, because of scheduled service. When I was traveling overseas a lot, I'd take a car service (a limousine company, but it was just an ordinary Lincoln Town Car) to/from the airport. It cost a little more, but I'd get personal service, and I knew the drivers pretty well.

They are usually pretty stright forward. They come and pick you up at your house, and drop you off. Usually tip the driver, but other then that, pretty stright forward.

I'd ask in your hometown forum for anyone with a company to recommend.  I know of one good car service and one good parking garage for my local airport, but I know of a few of each that I'm glad I never used too.

It's $27 dollars here if you are gone for a week it's not much more than parking.

Super Shuttle does the job right. When I flew out there, it cost like $15 single way, which is always cheaper than a taxi.

I've used them at several different airports and I've never had an issue with them.  They usually timely, polite and the vans are clean.

I don't think I have ever paid for a shuttle, they were always provided by the rental car company or hotel.  I do give a tip though.
