I don't have a PC that I can dedicate to this. Do you know if it's possible to install it on the Microsoft Virtual PC?

I've been reading about Vista/Longhorn, sounds amazing!

Sounds like the same stuff with new eye candy to me.  A lot of the features they were touting back in the beginning have been scrapped.

Most people know that there isnt anything to "fix" in XP.

Anyone who has problems with XP is definately experiencing an ID10T error.

I installed Vista February CTP on my new box (dual boot with XP), and it runs.  It doesn't like my current video card (GeForce 6200), but I have a new one on the way (GeForce 7800GT).  Runs alright.  Got a few things to install on it (firefox, yahoo messenger, an older version of AIM...)

Some of the look and feel is different, but I think I'm gonna like it.

Here's a good article that highlights some of the improvements MS is making with Vista
www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,186454,00.html

If MS pulls it off, it will be a great OS (but when has MS ever gotten anything right the first time??).  Of course, we'll all need new badass PCs to run it worth a darn on.

Here is a article on some of the Vista features.

Why Windows Vista Won't Suck

As far as hardware goes Vista should run on anything XP will run on you may have to turn off some eye candy... and assuming drivers for all your hardware are available.

I've been testing it for about a week now and I am not overly impressed.  It is more of an evolutionary change versus a revolutionary one.  The interface looks and feels like some early Mac OS X environments.

So far, I have been able to get all our enterprise apps to work on it and the OS ran fine on a Dell Optiplex 170L (2.8GHz P4, 1GB RAM, Intel built-in video).

We'll probably move to it here on our network about time the SP1 comes out.

And where would one get such a copy?

It seems that it's mostly an environment upgrade, meaning "It looks cool, more sci-fi."

That doesn't interest me. I've been running XP since 6 months before it was available (leaked corp version) and I have never run the XP pretty crap. Everything Classic, configured for performance, no mouse shadows or other silly visual enhancements.

If I got Vista I would set it up the same way and just have a buggy OS with limited compatibility.

The two reasons to get Vista are:

1. Aero Glass effects
2. Future compatability

If you can live with not upgrading from XP I think you should.
Vista is a resource hog and a half.

New drivers let my laptop's Nvidia FX GO-5200 do the Aero Glass stuff.

Anybody who doesn't have problems with XP is definitely not using their computer hard enough.  I guess it's OK for web browsing....

Ive been playing with the vista and am very excited about the new OS.

I give it an A- in its current form.   XP rates a B- in my book.

I guess two service packs and nearly 300MB worth of additional updates finally got it squared away...

Updates are updates.  Mac releases updates, linux distros need updates.

Anyone who has trouble with XP just doesnt know how to operate a computer, and should just quit.  The problem is entirely between the keyboard and the back of the chair.

How many Service Packs and updates did Windows 2000 have?
