Just caught this little guy as I was shoveling some sand around.  No clue what it is.  Caught south of San Antonio TX.  He's chilling in a water bottle right now.

Looks harmless, but damned if I know what he is.

Immature snakes can be tricky. (at least for me)

A very angry little feller.  Shaking his tail and striking at everything.

You'd be pissed too if some giant put you in a jar and kept looking at you.  Let him go, he's harmless.  Eats mice and small warm blooded animals.

In my area, round eyes indicate that it's not poisonous.

This is it, they're harmless.  Usually pretty docile/shy too.  I've caught a couple dozen and took care of a few dozen others over the years and never saw one try to bite.  They're primarily lizard eaters.  You find them on the roads at night a lot.

Your original pic didn't show red and the long-nosed snake has a lot of red on him.  Very pretty.

Some of them are black and white.

You're correct, it's a young Texas Longnose.  An ARFCOM snake thread where the OP comes through with the correct answer - nice job.

I would have gone with Pura Maldad, which is my default snake setting.

Too stripey to be a possum.  Maybe a porcupine
