'There's not much that's German here anymore'
Bad Godesberg was once home to diplomats working in Bonn. Today, Muslim women in veils and Arab shops and restaurants are abounding. Many long-term residents no longer feel at home, reports Daniel Heinrich.
Sabine Galuschka knows everyone here. The 57-year-old owns a small flower shop in the middle of Bad Godesberg's main street. Her discussions with customers often go beyond the business of buying flowers. The current debate about banning burqas is a particularly hot topic. "I just don't like that there are so many veiled women walking around. That's not the way we dress when we go out," she said. "I would just like to know who's hiding beneath the veil." 
Lavan adds that the transformation taking place in Bad Godesberg is a much bigger issue for her than the current political debates. She mentions the recent closing of "Aennchen," one of the last typically German restaurants left in Bad Godesberg. "Now you've got shisha bars springing up everywhere, with that sweet smell in the air," she says. "There's not much that's German here anymore, or even Italian. The funny part about this is that while I am sure it is bad I think it's like the problems here. You definitely see it on the news and hear about it. However, the typical German isn't paying attention.
I only say this because I ran into an old friend who has been living there. I made a whole "so I guess it's a little different now than it was" comment and he completely didn't understand what I was talking about. |

" yes it was and I knew back than when the wall came down that Germany is going down the shitter. I left Germany right in 1991 after my Ausbildung. I would have left even sooner but needed to finish my education. Most Germans where so happy but they could not see what is going to happen. A massive influx of people that never paid into the System. East Germans where used to getting everything for free or really cheap. East Germany was so broke and run down. When they did not have any products to build things people still went to work but just sat around. I could go on and on Berlin was the worst
