Had to take a picture of this earlier. I get the feeling it is directed towards gangbanger type thugs but it kind of bothers me since it happened to get put up right when the new self-defense law took effect. Looks like the Florida District Attorney, Governor and DOC sponsored it. I wanted to get a picture of me standing by it holding a .45 and type in "Try doing it without your .45" to answer the question but there is a steady stream of traffic going by at all times.

That handgun looks kinda like a Colt 1903 or some other Colt. Any idea what it is ?

Is that the pistol used in "Heat"?

Look at the bottom front of the grip--no mag either...

Silly bangers, unloaded guns are paperweights! They should be loaded, round in the chamber and then stuffed in the front of you pants!

I think you're right. I guess a real one would be way too dangerous to take pictures of

It's Florida's 10/20/Life law.
Ten years if you have a gun and commit a crime, 20 years if you use it in the crime and life if you shoot someone.
There are posters like that all over, not that specific one but like that.

What if it got pissed off when you took its picture?

I just saw your governor defending the new gun laws on fox.  He was quite pissed about the Brady Bunch of idiots handing out leaflets in the airports down there.  What a bunch of morons.

I think this billboard is aimed at thugs/gang bangers.

Its refering to the enhanced penalties passed by Congress for "gun" crime.  Its ostensibly a warning to the gangbangers.

So if you have a gun at home and you do something criminal and completely unrelated like say somebody assaults you and you fight back but get charged/convicted of assault, you can get 10 years in jail? Or does it have to be on your person?

Is this sign written in ebonics? The wording makes little sense to me.

These billboards have been around for a good while, a year or better. Project Safe Neighborhoods prosecutes gangstas on a federal level for gun crime. Thugs go to a Federal prision, mandatory minimum sentencing applies, no plea bargains, Feds pay for the incarceration instead of the State. It's still the option of the State to prosecute on a Federal level. Usually reserved for the worst offenders. FL still has a 10/20/Life policy.

I've got a better idea for a billboard.

"Don't break the law, or you're ass is grass"

Why do we do this gun shit?
Like, oh yea, the gun is really the problem.
Bullshit.

This is very close along the lines of how WI ended up with an Anti-gun Governor.

When all the tobacco lawsuit pay outs were divied up amongst the States, our AG at the time, Jim "The Veto-nator" Doyle, determined that the best way to spend most of it was on anti-smoking billboards.  He turned into an effective vehicle of self-promotion.

These things were freaking EVERYWHERE!  And of course, at the bottom of each communtiy service message, in big, bold letters:  "This message brought to you by Attorney General Jim Doyle (Now, all you people croaking from cancer hurry up and kick, bitches)"

Exactly, VA pioneered project exile. Use a gun in a crime and it's a Federal offense. I'm good with that.

I am not sure what the hell that billboard is saying.

"You think it is tough to defend your turf without a 9mm? How about you try to defend your turf without a 9mm from a federal prison!"

Huh...? Did that even make sense to the makers?

The gun on the billboard is a colt.  I have one that looks just like it.  1908 Vest pocket model.  .25 cal, hammerless.  Mine was made in 1912.

It doesn't make any sense at all ... If you try to protect yourself, but don't have a 9mm, then you go to jail and it will be harder to protect yourself?

Well, FUCK ... I better gets me a gun, if they're going to throw me in jail for not havin one.

I really just didn't like the wording myself. It could have mentioned some where in the big print that it was addressing ILLEGAL activity. I'm just being nit-picky anyway, most people probably don't pay these signs much attention.

And as noted when prosecuted by the Feds they can send yah to the Fed Prison in West Bumfuck Nowhere, halfway across the country.  Some guys think time in a local joint is doable, getting shipped to Boron isn't that great.
