hi res06/23/05 - USS John S. McCain (DDG 62) and USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) steam in formation in preparation to fire the ship's 5-inch guns during a ship sinking exercise on June 23, 2005. Accompanying USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and of the Hawk carrier strike group, guided missile destroyers, like the John S. McCain and the John Paul Jones, provide the Kitty Hawk strike group with anti-submarine warfare combat capability. Cowpens is currently operating in the Coral Sea off the coast of Australia's Queensland region aspart of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2005.
