When was it that GWB showed up at ground zero after the fall of the WTC? Was it 4 or 5 days or was it the day after... anyone know? I overheard that he was there the day after and that he took 5 days to show up to New Orleans. I wanted to chime in on this one person but didnt have my facts.

'The rest of the world hears you'
By Philip Delves Broughton in New York
(Filed: 15/09/2001)

PRESIDENT BUSH toured the site of the destroyed World Trade Centre yesterday afternoon, to boost morale among rescue workers and to take a first-hand look at the carnage of lower Manhattan.

Low-flying F14 fighters heralded his arrival by helicopter under tight security. Escorted by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, New York's two senators, Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer, and 35 congressmen, Mr Bush walked around the devastated buildings.

At one point, he clambered on to the rubble of what is now a mass grave and, with one arm around a fireman's shoulders, addressed the crowd of rescue workers through a loud hailer.

He said: "I want you all to know that America today is on bended knee in prayer for the people whose lives were lost here, and for the workers who work here, for the families who mourn."

One fireman shouted from the back of the crowd: "We can't hear you". The President replied: "Well, I can hear you."

As the laughter subsided, Mr Bush added: "I hear you, the rest of the world hears you and the people who knocked these building down will hear all of us soon." His reply prompted cheers and chants of "USA, USA".

"Thank you for making a nation proud," he said before waving a small American flag and stepping down into the crowd. Mr Bush drove away in a motorcade of more than 200 cars, flanked by 40 motorcycles.

Another place.

archives.cnn.com/2001/US/10/18/rec.recovery.facts/

SUMMARY:

Vice President Dick Cheney visited New York City Thursday afternoon and received his first look at the World Trade Center site.

The area has changed vastly since President Bush visited three days after the September 11 attacks that destroyed the WTC's twin 110-story skyscrapers. A great deal of debris has been cleared away and nearby buildings, including One Liberty Plaza, are scheduled to reopen soon.

Wall Street remained jittery following anthrax scares at a handful of New York and Washington offices. Wednesday, Bush economic adviser Lawrence Lindsey was downbeat about the short-term economy, predicting the September 11 terrorist attacks would push the U.S. economy into a recession.

NYC: 2 buildings down. Streets clear and easily used except for right around ground zero. No reports of major looting, arson, rape, and shooting at rescuers.

NO: most of the city flooded. Most streets full of debris, some hidden by water so even if the truck has water crossing gear it might hit crap under water and get stuck or pop a tire. Shots being fired at rescuers. Arson, rape, murder, and mass looting.

Really he visited NO on the 4th day. There were no serious problems in New Orleans UNTIL the levee broke TUESDAY morning. Considering the security situation in NO with gangs shooting at helicopters I am surprised they came that quickly.
