Kinda' hard to believe it was Frank. I always checked out any thread of his. He was always coming up with off the wall stuff and was good for a laugh. He was one of the coolest dudes here.

I hope the accusation is based on an IP traceroute (Frank lives in the Bay Area) rather than him posting those pic in the past.

Smart grasshopper raises the time allotted between posts though.
A Linux cluster with say 10 PC's or better running a SLAM program in tandem could definitley gnaw some wicked bandwidth.
It's not like it would delete any file trees, but it for damn sure would grind any site to a halt.

I remember reading some of his posts.  A lot of them seemed to be a cry for help in my opinion; everybody at work hates me for some reason, I don't like the people I call my friends, etc.  Me and a lot of other board members expended significant effort to try and brighten up his spirits and give him some advice.  And this type of behavior is his reaction?

GB, as a computer security professional, I can't see how posting pictures would qualify as a DoS.  The service was never interuppted in such a way that people could not access content, it's just that the content was disgusting and disturbing by most peoples' standards.  It's more like harassment.  However, if he really did post kid porn, as has been previously stated, then that's a whole different ball of wax.

Most people suffer from thinking they are anonymous on the internet.  While there are steps you can take to try and hide yourself, you are never truly anonymous.  It's just a matter of how well you hide yourself.  I'm using a proxy right now because the corporate firewall doesn't allow access to ar15.com from the outside, but a simple java applet or perl script on the server could get my real IP address, regardless of a proxy.

I tracked down some of the kids who were in the group that broke into whitehouse.gov.  They called themselves global Hell, or gH for short, and their leader was a kid by the name of Mosthated.  He had broken into some servers that were colocated where I worked and I ran into him on IRC where I told him that other people wouldn't be as forgiving as I was.  He didn't listen and kept breaking into other people's machines, so I ended up writing a little program that tracked him on IRC.  He would use proxies all throughout North America and Europe that people hadn't secured to hide where he was coming from and idle his IRC client.  After a while, one of the proxies he and his friends would use would go down or the owner would notice the connection and kill it, causing his IRC connection to die and come back up giving up his real IP address.  He was using a local ISP that I had contacts with, but I could have just as easily socially engineered them.  I had all his information (his name, mom's name, home address, phone number, etc.) the day the FBI raided his house and confiscated all his equipment.  I was just going to go over and give him a scare, but the FBI came down on him and the rest of gH before I got a chance.  The kid was 19 years old and his name was Patrick Gregory.  Last I heard, this so-called computer genius (what hacker runs Windows?) missed his federal idnictment hearing because he was in county lockup for assault and grand theft auto.  I'm sure he's serving his sentence by now.

Actually the ‘content’ posted was damaging to the site.
I think you could bill him for recovery time, litigation time and lost revenue because of the two.
