QUEENS, NY.  CNN, NOW.

Now word is that it was not a 767, but an Airbus A-300.  (I think that's what the designation was)

They're now talking about two crash sites, one of which was where an "engine" hit the ground.  I'm also hearing rumors of an initial explosion from the plane.  I really hope it wasn't a bomb...

They said it had a shitload of fuel because it was bound for Santo Domingo.

Maybe we have another West Pennsylvania.

I thought about that, but I don't think it's possible given the extremely short time that the plane was in the air.  Either it was regular old mechanical failure, or a bomb.

The plane's flight recorder has been recovered.  We will hopefully know quickly.

My first thought was that this was another terrorist attack, but perhaps this is just an accident.

Moments after the plane took off, witnesses said they saw what appeared to be an explosion. Parts of the plane began breaking away and wreckage was found in at four locations, Giuliani said.

A wing was found in Jamaica Bay. Most of the fuselage plunged into the Rockaway neighborhood. One of the plane's engines landed about a block away from the body of the plane.

Four homes were destroyed, another four seriously damaged and as many as a dozen others burned. Giuliani declared a Level One emergency, mobilizing all available police, fire and emergency personnel.

That could just as easily be a turbine failure as a bomb.  The boxes will tell, its a fairly modern aircraft, should have one of the high bandwith boxes.
