Installed a new color cartridge on mother-in-law's printer, and the color won't work.  I put in the genuine, overpriced Dell cartridges.  Yes, I removed the protective film off the cartirdige.   The newly installed black cartridge works fine.

Why won't this stupid thing print??????

Excellant advice, not an option at this point.

Cheaper to buy a new printer than the ink it seems.

Try having the printer do an alignment if thats an option. Also make sure the contacts on the cartage is clean.

is it only printing black,or not at all?

if it won't print in color make sure that it isn't set to print black only.

have you uninstalled printer and reinstalled yet?

It is printing fine in black.  I'll try the other suggestions.  Thanks.

Take the color cartridge back to the store and exchange it.

Do you have it plugged directly into the PC?  The Dell ware is finicky, it generally only runs well with WinXP, and if you have it plugged into a router or even a hub it might not work correctly.

We reloaded the printer software and that didn't get the thing to work correctly.

I guess I'm just gonna send the color cartridge back to Dell and have them send me another one.

Thanks for the help.

Turn off monochrome(black/white) in the printer options.

Throw it away and get another one.  Printers are cheap enough I get a new one every 18 months or so

Are you referring to "greyscale"?  I tried that one.

The thing use to work............ran the color out and replaced it with a new one.  Now, it doesn't work.  Just gonna send the new one back to Dell and have them send us another one.
