Not LEO but I drive a LOT.  Especially the I5 corridor and I run Waze full time.  Interested in hearing LEOs chime in.

Good Night.

It's kinda like that guy that flashes his headlights at you to warn of a speed trap ahead only about 100% more powerful.

I feel like you should spell "Waze" correctly so people can see for themselves.

Personally, I like it for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that it is generally accurate when reporting the placement of speed traps.

I"m actually a fan of any kind of crowd sourcing.

There was a cop here who boasted in a past thread about waze or speeding how he sits on it and deletes the marker of himself when his squad car gets marked.

He was then informed that only deletes it on his device.

It's Waze. It's great for warning you about road hazards and bad traffic.

When you have the waze app on constantly reports your speed and position to the "central computer" so the app can calculate roads conditions and tell you almost every time to the minute when you will arrive. Works like a charm, tells you were all the traffic is, and may save you a ticket if you use it right. Don't want to be watched or have your info used?  Turn it off.

I've got a coworker who uses it daily, mostly because he has no sense of direction and can't remember anywhere he has driven previously; I think if it wasn't for Waze he would have a tough time getting home everyday.

I on the other hand may pull up google maps for a few min when I travel to a new city - but for daily driving in my home area, I may take a quick look at the traffic / weather report on the morning news.

Never heard of it. Sound like a passing fad like facebook....... and pockets.

Here is an idea, how about you guys slow the fuck down and don't worry about getting a ticket? You might even stay alive a little longer..

There's a lot more to Waze than a heads up about LE.

Its most useful feature is real time routing around traffic.

It also gives you a heads up about road hazards, sudden traffic pileups, work zones, etc. Which definately increases safety.

It's like Air Traffic Control for a car.

I legit just laughed out loud from that one. Usually only use Waze when going out of state and don't know the highway layout. Great app!

Waze works exactly as advertised. Typically when I drive I use my Garmin for Nav and traffic and have Waze running in the background with audio for alters only (more traffic, cops, potholes, etc). Works damn well as a navigation app on its own as well. Blows away Google maps.

Like any other device/method of "locating" law enforcement (e.g. RADAR detectors, etc.), you can't rely on it 100%.

That said, Waze has absolutely "saved" me a couple of times.

The debris in the road and the vehicle stopped on shoulder warnings have both prevented me from being in accidents.

The real time traffic jam info has also saved me a lot of time and once prevented me from missing a flight.
1/4/2016 11:17:05 PM EDT

I like it.

If it gets people to drive more safely because of a cop being there, and if more people notice the cop and drive safely.....then the cop being there is doing what the cops claim traffic enforcement is for (increasing safety)....without the tickets.

So yeah, I don't see the problem.  Unless writing tickets isn't about safety at all.

The road hazard and traffic routing features are way more beneficial than the cop is here part.  But I liked the cop locator bit too.  Because honestly.....fuck cops hiding and shit.  Play your game if you want.  But don't get pissed when people look for ways to thwart your game.

Can't wait until Garmin puts a sim card in their units and you can run waze on top of the Garmin (Are you listening garmin?). I try to use it but I'm on my phone for work constantly so it makes it difficult.

First, Waze was developed by Israelis, so the 90 percent of arfcom that is liberal/fascist but in denial will hate them. Now, Google owns Waze, so the 90 percent of arfcom that is liberal/fascist but in denial will love them.

If you can get past that, it is amazing technology.

One of my gigs is driving for Uber and Lyft. Waze rocks for getting me around traffic. For casual users, probably Google maps is adequate.

I use it a fair bit. Its great for finding the short routes to places, and finding alternate routes around traffic jams.

Saves a lot of traveling time.
