Who's had em?

Edit: I can't spell.

[#1]
Painful route to take.
6/27/2013 5:49:35 PM EDT
[#2]
Some canals are just dead ends.  Keep that in mind when planning a route.
6/27/2013 5:49:51 PM EDT
[#3]
The best route to take along a canal is usually mid channel.  Deeper so less chance of scraping bottom.

New York has the Erie canal. Probably the biggest route canal.
6/27/2013 5:50:53 PM EDT
[#5]
Make sure you don't forget your map to navigate the route on the canal
6/27/2013 5:51:22 PM EDT
[#6]
Why do you have to be from my state?
6/27/2013 5:51:41 PM EDT
[#7]
I've had 66 of 'em.
6/27/2013 5:52:27 PM EDT
[#8]
I think Marky Mark used one of those to steal some gold.
6/27/2013 5:52:28 PM EDT

Check updated charts before going out. Make sure you know your draft.

Depends on which route you go.
6/27/2013 5:55:01 PM EDT
[#12]
Plan for extra time at the locks.

You gotsta shoot for that looooove canal.

Root Canal. Yep, I had a few. Not exactly high on my list of fun things to do, but they aren't as bad as I originally would've though. Assuming you got a good dentist, they dope ya up with the really good novicane. A little vibration and some unholy smells coming from your mouth, but otherwise pretty easy to deal with. Until the stuff wears off, you're essentially drooling on yourself for hours and your mouth might ache for a while. But nothing unmanagable.

Also less of a chance of roots growing from the bank into your route and blocking your way

Better than a dry socket.

I've had 4, but three of them were on the same tooth. Years after having one done, I got an infection, my regular doc retreated it, but the infection came back, so I got to go to a specialist who was finally able to fix it. I'd advise against having to go that route.
The worst part is the doc and assistant trying to stick both of their hands in your mouth at the same time.
The drugs they have these days work pretty good. Administered properly, you really shouldn't feel much of anything, and the recovery isn't too bad either.
You'll be a little tender for a few days, and the doc will likely give you a scrip for some pain killers.
Honestly, regular over the counter doses of Ibuprofen worked fine for me.

Having said all that, my retreatment for the one root canal was the worst. Some of the chlorine based antiseptic he shot into the root to clean out the infection went into my sinus' and down my throat. Which was pretty interesting once I got a handle on the burning in the back of my throat. Suffice to say, I had a string of bloody noses for the next day or so. Which rather sucked.

Where's the surgery going to be?  We'll come by and be your rooting section...or is that routeing section?

Panama  Canal is an easy route since you have pilots to guide you.  Don't have to worry about getting lost or auto spell check changing words on you.

In Wichita Ks they have what they call the "Canal Route", It is a section of I-135 elevated with a large drainage canal running below it.

"And then he begins to drill, and you see and smell smoke" to paraphrase Bill Cosby.
I went back with an infection, the doc popped the cap off and holy mother of god was that a terrible odor.

This. Unless it gets infected, then I had one done around Christmas years ago and it got infected. Bad. Went to urgent care and got a script for pain meds until the dentist was open after the hoiday. Worst pain Ive had in my life, and Ive had road rash, torn ligaments, etc.

OP: You get numbed up right, and it shouldn't be a problem. Molars in the lower jaw tend to be more difficult to numb up than anything else, but that's about it.

I have seen several canals route over creeks locally.

Venice has famous Route Canals.

Root Canals are a smart choice and much cheaper than pulling the tooth only to replace it with a bridge or implant. Don't believe the naysayers - they're all a bunch of kooks who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.
6/27/2013 6:15:32 PM EDT

I live in the desert. There are no canals along my route.

A couple.  Pain in the ass and expensive.  One was a four trip process.

I prefer the love canal.

Poor route planning.

I think we have successfully hijacked the thread. The dental forces are in full retreat and it looks like a rout.

I can't recall if there are any canals along Route 66.
