I literally think it may be true, even if my life were clearly in jeopardy, I may not be able to walk away from an argument or fight once my "fangs are in the floorboards" so to speak. What's worse I have a hell of a time letting the OTHER person walk away either, I push and pursue until I either get my way or there's a blow up on one or both of our parts.

This goes for most arguments that I have but it's only really distressing with regards to my long time GF, This just caused what should have been a minor (albeit emotionally charged, she was dancing a little too provocatively with another man in a bar and I didn't care for it) disagreement to turn into a huge fight with her, we started out discussing pretty calmly, it gradually escalated, and instead of walking away when I saw it was only going bad (she had been drinking and was being totally irrational), I pressed until we were nearly at each others throats, now we're not even speaking and I regret it, but honestly, I don't know where it came from or why I do it.

Anyone else deal with this compulsion to always be right? Coupled with a total inability to just let it go and walk away?

ETA: I'm even considering it may be a mild form of OCD, I do exhibit some other tendencies towards it, never diagnosed but I can get extremely wrapped up in things to the point that I lose sight of nearly everything else.

Wow, Lack of self control... Seriously impressive dude.

You'd better get over it, or eventually you're going to end up with a Restraining Order...or Felony charge..... Or Both.

Just Dealt with a guy like you a few nights ago.  Gets into a  verbal with a Co-worker at the end of his shift.  Co-Worker was 1000% in the wrong..... However, Co-worker walked away, and the Moron followed him 8 blocks to where the co-worker caught his bus, screaming cursing, and challenging every step of the way.  By the time we get called and go up there, noone is around.  Moron, decided to flag down another car and spin his tail of Woe.  My District, So i head down there and take the job, after listening to Moron for a while, he stars repeating "I'll settle this at work tomorrow, if he wants to fight me, I'll do it.  I explain to him that if he initiates anything he's the one who is in the wrong.  He wants to keep prattling on.  probably the only reason I didnt lock him up the next night was the fact he had already been fired for Drinking on the job..which was the REAL reason he decided to play the asshole.

No I don't let her, she got drunk and did it, that's what the fight started about, RIF.

It's not a matter of physical confrontation, I've never had that issue, not really a violent guy, just can't let arguments go.

Fights are too much work.  I'd rather just sit back and have a drink.  Unless someone is trying to hurt me or someone nearby, it's likely I'm not fighting.

She has friends that I am comfortable if she dances with, as long as it stays respectful, I'm not much for dancing and she really enjoys it. Grinding on them in front of me crosses the line of "respectful", thus the argument.

Sorry to say this man, but you should not be armed.  If you cant back down from something as simple as a bar dispute, you should not have the access to something that can kill .  Learn to control your emotions and yourself.

Going to see a therapist doesn't mean you are crazy and just might open your eyes to a few more things.
You should consider this.  And most insurance covers it.  It might be a good idea before you need your insurance for something more fatal.

Another couple of factors are (1) drinking in situations like this and (2) bars in general.  I would dare say that if you/her were not drinking then it would not have been such a big issue.  Bars tend to do this to people.  I've seen my fair share of it.  I'm with the opinion here that you should start dancing boy....shake your money maker and get out there with her.  You've eliminated part of the problem instantly.

i never back down from a debate when im right (every time imo)  i always walk away before it turns to violence though becaue i always have a gun on me. ALWAYS.   So sometimes an asshole may think he got the best of me but i have the satisfaction of knowing a spared his life .

If somebody ever has  something to say about my family though i wwill hand the gun to my wife and come back to get some.  I have only had that happen twice where someone insulted my wife though and some calm word about ripping their throat and eyes out while staring them directly in the eye has gotten them to back down and apologize both times.

Anger and ego clould judgement.  I know you know this.
Your suspicions about mild OCD are possible and you should check into it.
Put in your shoes what I would be concerned about is confronting an advesary with similar tendencies.....could be deadly my friend.
Seek some assistance on the matter  at least for your own peace of mind.

Every woman I have ever known!! They always have to have the last word and always have to be right... I also would like to state for the record that  your long time girlfriend who likes to drink and dance didn't surprise you with this behavior.. You went to a bar with her because you know there will be DRAMA!! You can, and do chose to be in this situation.. When you grow up and look back you will see how fucking senseless it was to act like a spoiled little boy..

Oh no, I failed to impress you, I'm heart broken. You think I don't already recognize that it's a self control problem?

You are trying to impress somebody and no one here gives a shit.  Does that piss your little ass off?

Nope, because what you're saying makes absolutely no sense, just like my drunk ass GF last night, who the hell am I trying to impress, pray tell?

Only you can answer that question young man.  Once you do your problem might be solved.

GD is always good for the tough love, but I knew exactly what I was getting into, so I can't really get offended.

i never back down from a debate when im right (every time imo)  i always walk away before it turns to violence though becaue i always have a gun on me.

I love parody replies!

Maybe one day you'll outgrow your compulsion to prove you're right.

I pray that one day you don't come across that one person you shouldn't fuck with and try to prove your point to him.

Being from California, do you feel entitled to act like an immature jack-ass, lol?

Maybe you should get in touch with Attention Whores Anonymous
