SESSION ON GUN LAWS IS HELD UP BY 'SHEL' GAME
By FREDRIC U. DICKER
WEDNESDAY'S special legislative session called by Gov. Pataki to toughen laws against gun trafficking and assaults on cops "is looking to be a waste of a day," a top Republican charged yesterday.
The official, who asked not to be named, accused Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) of seeking to derail the session by proposing a series of unrelated measures designed to "protect the Democrats from the charge that they're not willing to do anything about crimes against cops.
"Shelly is loading up the truck with irrelevant stuff," said the official, adding the Assembly had just begun "aging" a set of proposals unrelated to Pataki's agenda so that they can be voted on Wednesday.
