As much as I wish I could say that our founding fathers dream of a successful Republic is being fulfilled, I just can't. If Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, or any other founder for that matter knew what our government system has turned into, they would be rolling over in their graves. The more I think about it, the more I feel I can say our government is turning into a socialistic democracy.

Republic = Rule by Law
Democracy = Majority Rule

For that to happen we would have to get rid of the Electoral college or have direct election of its electors.

I think they would be amazed and proud at how great and successful this nation has become.

They would undoubtedly be unimpressed by the way we have let our gov't infringe upon our personal liberties and intrude into our lives.  

Again, we have become successful and great but much of that is due to the fact that we have had, for most of our nation's history, unlimited natural resources and the protection of two oceans.  Both of those things have changed:

1]The oceans are not the protection they once were.

2]We are being invaded over land from the south.

3]Our economy is now dependent on others and our manufacturing capacity has dwindled dramatically.

4]We depend on others for many of our natural resources.

I fear we are on our way down.  The leaders WE elect betray us daily, trading short term handouts and election results for long term success and survival.  It is a good thing we are not a true democracy or we would have already been enslaved by either our own government or another.
