I grew up poor so we ate a lot of simple cheap foods. I guess the taste for that kind of cooking never wore off. Now I enjoy a lot of finer cooking, but I prefer something simple.

That is why it fails as as a two ingredient meal. It does not work with just the two.

Given that I am a "master" of the one pot/eat from the pot, I really cannot think of a true two ingredient meal. The closest, I think, is wild rice and diced tomatoes, but the tomatoes have "flavorings".
