When did you take your first shot? Mine was when my dad made me skip my cub scout meeting and head for the woods. He pulled out his S&W Mod 27 and lauched off a few rounds into a berm. Then explained to me how I need to respect guns and how dangerous they can be. I was terrified and fascinated at the same time. He then let me fire his Walther TPH .22lr. Changed my life. |

8.5 years old. Winchester Model 94 Canadian Centennial .30-30. I think this was my dad's way of trying to get me to stop oogling guns. It was freezing cold out, and I had no idea that a firearm could recoil so much (I was used to my Red Ryder!). I thought I was going to die after the first shot, but I knew my old man was watching, so I fired 3 more shots. (He had to work the action). |

5th grade gym class pellet rifles in the gym. And that was in '90 ! (last year they had shooting in phys ed I think) then I had to wait..........until I moved out.....and then until I moved out of the dorms. Then I bought a .22 marlin bolt-action. then an ar15. then another ar15. then a llama 9mm (cheap shooter....couldn't afford the 1911 yet). then another ar15 lower. then the 1911. and another ar lower....and....well, you get the picture....i'm addicted now. |

My family was on vacation in Arizona and we had taken mules up into the gorges, valleys, etc. The guide had what I vaguely remember to be a Ruger Bearcat 22. Not sure but that is now my best guess. He had steel plates set up, six of them. My dad hit 5, I hit 4. My mom and brother hit none. Things escalated from there and last time I shot with my dad at an ipsick match, I placed second to a master, he was second to last |

About 6 years ago. My grandmother had just passed away and I was given my Grandfather's Japanese Type 99 Rifle (7.7). It sat in my closet for a while (I think maybe 2 years). The firing pin was broke - and that in itself was a challenge to find. Being the first time I had ever shot a rifle - I found it to be great fun. Since then I've bought more rifles and handguns than I have time to shoot them at the range. |

First non-air rifle was probably in cub scout camp. .22lr I was probably 10 or thereabouts. Guess I was a late bloomer. I can't blame it on my father so much as gowing up in urbanized San Diego. I'm 25 now and my first hunting trip probably won't be till next year. |
I used to HATE the fact I lived in a small town! I HATED IT!!! Now, I Appreciate every single moment I had. I feel bad for all the arfcomers that Have to “Go to the Range” Not that it’s a bad thing, but I will never again feel Like I am missing out on something because I can get away from the city real fast. |
| I think I was about 3.5-4yrs old when I got to pull the trigger of a rossi .38spl.......I don't remember how I got into loving firearms/military but I know that I loved to watch war/movies w/guns/aircrafts at age 3-4...that was even before my first trigger pull. |
That's quite a heirloom. I think my first shot was made with a SKS. A friend/co-worker let me shoot it and an old S&W 357. Long time ago...around 1990, I think! Scott |
| 4th grade (1994) with my dad out in the desert. it was a 10/22 he bought and we shot cans, passed it down to me and i still shoot it everytime i go shooting with all my larger caliber weapons. its still my favorite, over my garand, my ar, and my 1911. plus we got lots of 25 rd clips for it before the 94 CA ban. all my base are belong to it |

I believe I was about 13 or 14. A family friend of my (now) brother in law brought a S&W .38 with him on a camping trip. It had something on the order of a 2" barrell, as I recall. My wrists were actually swollen the next day. Next was a 12ga when I was about 16. After that, it was an arsenal of weapons when I went shooting with a friend and his Clamper buddies (some of you in California might now what Im talking about). That's when I shot my first AR (also my first rifle). I've been hooked ever since. |
Fixed it for ya. You're welcome |

me thinks i was 13 or 14....on a cruise ship.....20 guage pump shotty shooting skeet off the back of the boat. that is the first i can "remember". before that i shot BB and pellet guns almost every day in my backyard.. oh...and i hit 3 of the 5 clays....i was very proud. |

5 or 6 yrs old and remember it like it was yesterday. My Dad won a pair of pearl handled 1911s at some sort of shoot and we were at the relative's place for a bbq when he brought them out. All the kids got a turn but I was last because of my age. I almost didn't get the chance to shoot because my moronic cousin didn't believe when told to hold on tight and got a gash in his forehead from the hammer. I remember Dad helping me hold it and explaining how to line up the sights too. Boom ! Clean miss of the jug but a solid hit to my I'VE GOTTA HAVE ONE OF THESE zone that I've never recovered from. Mom made him sell them some time after that .... they were Gorgeous Rip |

I believe the first time I fired a firearm, I was in Italy when my dad was stationed at Naples. Another Air Force officer lived a couple houses down, and his sons were already away in college. He took me and my best friend who lived right next door to me, down to the beach and let us shoot his Beretta 9mm a couple times. He had about one magazine worth of ammo and needed to shoot it up before he moved. He was about to be reassigned. I can't remember his name, but he was a really nice. He took me and my best friend to a couple places around Naples. I remember he took us hiking one weekend up a big hill that had some ruins on the top of it. I think it was an medieval fortress, but only some remnants of the walls were there. |
You arent kidding . After hearing my dads .357 roar, I never ever even entertained the thought of looking for it in his room. Heck I dropped the Walther 22 after my first shot. Slide bit my thumb. |

Earliest I can recall shooting a firearm... hmm.... Must have been in kindergarten. My father borrowed a .22 rifle from the neighbor out at the farm we were living on (just rentin, not farmin). It must have been an autoloader, cuz I don't remember working a bolt, maybe a Marlin tube feed... cuz I don't remember there being a detachable mag. We went hiking along this creek that was by the house. Shot at some rocks and stuff around an abondend rail road trestle. Not the best teaching experience, but hey, the guy grew up in NYC for cryin out loud! The fact that I was even exposed and shown how to shoot a .22 was a big deal, I rekon... I've lusted after firearms ever since. |
| I was about 8 years old when I tagged along with my father and uncle to a turkey shoot in NC. My uncle let me shoot his old 12 gauge shotty. I remember being a bit nervous about the "kick", but very excited. I wound up winning two of the four rounds that I entered that night. It felt really good to beat all of the old timers that were there. That night I came home with a turkey, a ham, and a big ole' bruise on my shoulder. It was great!!! |
