Seems logical. Job qualifications are nothing new. If you can speak several languages you will make more money and have more positions available to you. Its not the school boards fault the fed is allowing the rampant immigration to happen.

OK well the gov allows a school to have 30% non english speaking children (hypothetically)...this is a problem....what are they supposed to do? The principle probably needs to talk to them. What is your solution? If the schools test scores drop they get no funding and they are out of comission. |

Solution? Ship them back to Mexico. They ARE in our country illegally. For those Spanish speaking only students who happen to be here under lawful circumstances, send those very few through the ESL courses already established across the State, in every school.

The school board has NO power to do either option....and they sit there stuck with the reality. No one will help them. I TOTALLY agree with your ideas but it cannot be acomplished at the city government level....and there they are stuck with the problem. |

The requirement is a little extreme and school boards are reactionary but if the current administation (white house) stays the course it is only a matter of time before it will become neccesary. |

Yeah, I worked as a salesman at a compay that started to develop a bi-lingual sales force
they were paid more starting wages that the non-bilinguals were after years of employment they were given sales incentives that the non-bilinguals were not(More than double commission) and they were given bonuses of $50-100 to just come to work........when they didn't feel like it (non-bi-linguals were fired for not coming to work when they didn't feel like it, attrition) when the programs first started a couple of us pointed out that a bi-lingual sales person could deal with the spanish AND english customers...............they said "don't worry" heh  (I didn't worry, I got another job, my co-workers in denial were squeezed out slowly) |

DISD is a craphole. It just as corrupt as the city council. Every person they select to be in charge of the schools either quits or gets arrested for stealing funds.
The Dallas city council is a scared right now. Half of them are under an FBI investigation for a low cost housing scam. They just happen to be all black so of course the FBI is being racist against them. One even said that if the FBI continues that there will be a riot that will make LA look good. |

I'm afraid WE are the ones in the wrong country. Dallas has been re-annexed by Mexico and over here in Ft. Worth, we're next. It's just ridiculous. Even if we pretend that these folks should be here (which most shouldn't) what a disservice the schools are doing by teaching classes in Spanish. The FIRST thing they should do is teach these kids English. If they are going to stay here and do something besides collect entitlement checks, they will need to speak English to make it in the workplace. |

Yup. Go to north side anymore and it's pure spanish. Billboards, signs, newspapers, store fronts, you name it. I've watched a beautiful city turned into northern fucking mexico, trash everywhere, cars on blocks, and graffiti. The politicians around here don't give a fuck about anyone except the illegals - they know which side their bread is buttered on now. |

You do realize that in 20-30-40 years (and keeping in consideration that the US has no legal language) ebonics and Spanish will become the de facto languages and you folks will be a minority, right?
It sucks, but how about you take a pragmatic aproach and have your kids learn Spanish? If it's not because of their future, just as a cultural thing, learning languages is a very cool thing, I wish I had the time to learn more myself. |

If you go to the US, you should speak English, period. If you live in the US and don't speak English, you should start learning the damn language. If you're an inmigrant, you go to the US to better your way of living, and part of that bettering yourself should be speaking English. That said... You prepare for a SHTF scenario, right? Well, consider this as such scenario and start learning Spanish. Should you be forced to do it? Fuck no. Will it improve your life (or the life of your kids) in the next 10-30 years? Fuck yes. |

Yeah, I get what you are saying, but I don't see that as a solution. If everybody breaks down an d says, well, thats the way its going to be, I better learn Spanish then they win... But if enough people say, NO, I refuse to give in, I'm not learning it...then maybe we can stop it. My way of stopping it is to refuse to give in to them.... Like I said, I have no problem with people coming and refusing to learn English...just don't expect us to bend over for you.... If you are talking about a true SHTF scenario...it makes target acquisition easy...no speakee English (in the US)...well, there you go... ETA....I see you are from Argentina, I mean no disrespect to you of course. I just feel if you come to our country to live, you should learn English. If I emigrated to Argentina, or Americans in general started emigrating to Argentina, I am sure you would not expect Argentinian Schools to start requiring teaching in English, or signs to be multi-lingual, or to change your culture to reflect mine.... I do agree learning a second language is a good and useful thing, but being forced to do it because of an invading culture I am dead set against.... |

I have no problem with requiring a principal to speak spanish if they are in an area predominantly made of immigrants. Illegal immigrants and their children have no place in our schools, but legal immigrants should be in our schools learning.
If the school was in an area where the majority of immigrants were chinese, it'd be smart to make principals be required to speak chinese. A principal is the administrator, and has to often talk to the parent's of problem children. Having a principal that is in a better position to communicate with immigrant parents, who probably won't aquire fluent English in the US while working as fast as their kids aquire in the school, is a positive influence for the education and controlling of behavior of kids in the school. English, of course, is the world language. It is easy to find someone to speak/translate anywhere in the world. Tours are almost always given in a countries native language and English. International business is almost exclusively conducted in English, and international contracts are always in English. While spanish might be useful to learn in the US, it is usually only used to talk to laborers. A slow transition to more Spanish and less English in this country would be a very bad thing, and not in our nations interest as far as global commerce. I speak spanish, btw.

These principals will be FIRED if they don't become proficient in Spanish in 3 years. These are American citizens threatened with their jobs if they don't adapt what is essentially a 3rd world language.
These principals ought to all get together and just refuse; I wonder what DISD will do then. As has been said before, DISD wasn't forced to do this, they chose to, and next they'll be after the teachers. "Immigrants" need to conform to OUR way not vice versa, and I'm sick of hearing that we don't have an official language in this country-of course we do, it's de facto English! If a French foreign exchange student's preparing to come to the U.S. to study, that student would bone up on English, not Spanish. The left likes this accomodation of illegals because it changes the demographics of this country, far better to mix up the populace for the day the great socialist revolution takes place. The Republicans like it for the short term profits, despite the cost illegal immigration costs the taxpayer. We've been checkmated by both political partys. |

If you're going to live in our country, learn the fricking language. 82nd has it right...ship them back to Mexico and put the ones here legally through an ESL class first.
A woman came into our store the other day. Asked me if I spoke spanish. 'No', I said. She looked at me like I had two heads and said 'No speak SPANISH?!?!?!' I said 'No' again. She got all pissed off at me, shaking her head and muttering in spanish. I just shrugged and said 'So go somewhere else'. I have no tolerance for people that come here and refuse to learn our language, then everyone ends up catering to them. Send them all back!!

The flip side of that is once when working in a store, we had three Spanish tourists come in. Now, being the capitalist country we are, wouldn't we want to make sales to them? Money that is spent here rather than buying all supplies at home, and lugging them here. Now granted, I don't speak spanish very well, and the spanish accent was throwing me off a little bit, I tried because I realize that I may one day be travelling in a country that I don't speak the language of, and would be delighted to have somebody at least TRY to help me in english. The world is getting smaller, and running into people who don't speak your language is getting more and more common, learn to live with it, or miss out on meet tons of cool people. While requiring a second language shouldn't be done, I guess I don't have a problem with it because I took it upon myself to learn another language for my own benefit. |
