GF told me last night she was getting a big tax return, and she wanted to get me a new gun. I have limited options to choose from, and these are the ones that stand out to me... |

Get the S&W 1911PD in 4" barrel. Fantastic guns. HH looks like the S&W only comes in 5" Unless they stopped making them, the PD I owned was a Commander-sized 1911. Check with S&W on their site. HH ETA: Bud's is out-of-stock, but here's a good looking one: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/31/products_id/15090http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/31/products_id/15090 If you Google S&W 1911PD 4.25" you'll see a bunch of them. |

Both shot perfectly right out of the box. Great guns for the money! |

Great guns for the money! I am sorry, but I am unfamiliar with this "idiot mark" Could you elaborate a little as to how it is made and how to avoid it? Could it come from the factory "idiot marked", and would that be something I need to inspect for prior to purchase?

When putting the 1911 back together, the slide-stop can scratch the frame below the slide-stop hole if you're not careful. Do a google image search for 1911 idiot marks and you'll get the idea. There is NO reason an idiot-mark should happen other than carelessness.
