I just read, in it's entirety, the "Question about cops" thread, and I have a question, and a statement... The Question: WTH does JBT stand for? The Statement: There are far too many people on this board that are anti-police. It's a little disturbing to see. Granted, there are those officers out there that are on power trips, but there's people like that in every profession. I happen to be friends with a TON of officers, and not one of them is an idiot...Well ok, may one is. But my point is this, just as johninaustin said, you usually don't get arrested unless you've done something to deserve it. Police officers have very little tolerance for people that are being stupid in public, especially if that stupidity is directed towrds them. If you're in a tense situation, and you get mouthy with a cop and start hurling vulgarities at him/her, you deserve to cuffed, if it's within the law. It undermines an officer's authority to execute the laws of the state/community you live in. If you don't like it, call your local elected official, and get the laws changed. Most of the people on this site are very level headed, but a few are just teetering on radicalism. I'd love to see one or two of them in the same situation as the soldier, and see how they would have reacted to being arrested. Had the soldier known the fellow grabbing him was the local police chief, I'm sure he would have acted much differently. Now I know I'm gonna catch a ton of flak for this little rant, but I don't care. The bottom line is this, if you don't like what people are getting arrested for, get the laws changed. otherwise, live with it and move on. That's how America works. EDIT...My flame suit is on, so fire away. |
