I went for the surprise, but I think she knew all along.... There's no Santa, let this be a surprise....

Not too many real surprises left in life. I would wait. It is really amazing how ultrasounds have become a standardized practice as they aren't necessary for the vast majority of normal pregnancies.

Get green, it's gender neutral.

We found out with both of ours. I hate suprises.

All 3 kids were a surprise...wouldn't have it any other way.

Nothing a kid needs in the first month or two is based on gender. Wait and see.
Link Posted: 7/22/2008 2:30:01 PM EST
We kept out first one a surprise (make sure you tell the OB and the techs when they lube up the belly). Cheated on the 2nd one.

Having done both, surprises are better.

Didn't for the first, going to wait and see for our second.
Link Posted: 7/22/2008 2:31:50 PM EST
I'd like to know. It would be cheaper if you knew what to buy.
Link Posted: 7/22/2008 2:31:55 PM EST
I'd want to know. I might feel differently when we're actually having one though.

Just have two names ready. Or call it Pat.
Link Posted: 7/22/2008 2:34:18 PM EST
I didn't want to know with my first until the ultrasound tech asked me if I wanted to know. Of course I said yes. I couldn't leave there knowing someone else knew what the sex was and me not!
Link Posted: 7/22/2008 2:34:21 PM EST
The first one we knew, as we had to have an ultrasound. The next 4, we didn't need an ultrasound, so we didn't know.

Currently in that boat-neither my wife nor myself can make up our mind(5 months along), so as of right now I'll say no. If that changes, there are several "ultrasound studios" in the area. I figured we'd make the reversible decision. There's a way to find out if we want to, we can't "un-know" what we find out. We have two names we're pretty set on, regardless what our baby is, one will fit.

All I care about is that the baby's healthy, as of this morning's appointment it looks good so far on that front.

1st should be a surprise..All others following is best to know..
Link Posted: 7/22/2008 2:40:24 PM EST
My wife and I waited, and we're both really glad that we did. It was really hard though.

I have two girls and with both we found out via ultrasounds. We needed to know what color paint to buy.
Link Posted: 7/22/2008 3:19:10 PM EST

We found out yesterday (it's girl).

You really couldn't miss it. She was butt up when the ultrasound started, so the first image pretty much looked like someone picking up soap in the shower, and you saw two leggs and a butt with nothing between them. Some people say wait for the surprise. Our doctor ask and said whatever your answer is, is the right answer. It was still a surprise yesterday. Just not later.

I dont like surprises

LOL... no kidding. If you wait, you're still surprised when you find out yet now you have to go buy all your baby clothes in the right color RFN.

Male I buy him a .45, 7.62x39 or x51

Female I buy her a .45, .223

Not knowing was the real deal. More fun not knowing. My girls will get my guns no matter what.

Our first one we were surprised.

Our second, well she was getting a sonogram done and we just looked at each other and asked.

Girl #2.

"My girlfriend's pregnant right now. I'm a little scared. My friends keep bugging me. They're like, 'Do you want a boy or a girl?'.
I don't care. I know it sounds cheesy, but... I just hope it's black."

We decided to wait and be surprised.

We weren't dissappointed.
Link Posted: 7/22/2008 6:51:54 PM EST
When my children were born it was the most exciting times in my life. Before they were born I know exactly what sex they were because my wife's doc had to do an amino on her. This is exact, but ifs and buts. Sonograms are something like 80% because the docs actually see the genitals, but sometimes the image is not exactly perfect so there is an error factor. And now they are all grown up and off to college.

It was pretty obvious when I saw my son on the ultrasound viewer.
Link Posted: 7/22/2008 6:59:53 PM EST
I kept it a surprise. I would do the same again.
Link Posted: 7/23/2008 3:12:41 AM EST
First child, my wife and i didnt want to know. BONUS it was a boy!

Second child we figured what the heck when doctor asked us if we wanted to know?
BONUS boy number 2!

Really all that matters is that they are healthy (boy or girl)

We found out. I think it gave my wife something to do. She bought clothes for him from when he was born untill jounior high I believe. Next one maybe we will wait. SO much stress during the birth it might have been nice to have a surprise then or maybe not. Healthy and mine is all that matters.

Nothing a kid needs in the first year is gender specific, much less in the first few months. Don't paint the nursery until you come back from the hospital, buy the paint on the way home. That kid aint sleeping in there for the first few weeks anyway.

I didn't want to know.

I was surprised with a baby boy.

Good stuff.
