Figuring it's just a metal body and a fuse. Are they legal? If so, anyone know where they sell them?

IIRC, the fuse on a training grenade is the same as the fuse on a live grenade. Legal to own with the tax stamp and paper work.

If you are into training with grenades, just use potatos.

Isn't the fuse on a smoke nade the same?

Why would smoke nade be legal and a empty M69 casing not be legal?

I'm pretty sure the fuse isn't the reason a live grenade is a DD. I think it has more to do with the explosive content in the body of the grenade.

The M21A1 fuse on a smoke or cs gas grenade is an igniter, the M213 fuse on a fragmentation grenade is a detonator. Although the M228 fuse used on the M69 practice grenade does not have the heat and shock required the initiate a fragmentation grenade it is a controlled item just like artillery simulators.

So, are they regulated in the same manner as commericial blasting caps and similar detonators?

That would be a good assumption. although the M228 fuses are not individually serial numbered as in the manor of a registered DD, it may be that they are batch or lot numbered. The fact that the civilian sector has little requirement for practice grenade fuses may be sufficient reason for the military to make them a controlled item. Since they have never been released to the public, they might also see possessing an M228 fuse as possession of stolen military equipment. They seem to do a pretty good job of keeping them off the street, how many have you seen floating around at the gun shows or for sale on E-bay.

So are the fuses we used in EIB with the grenade cases the same as M-67 fuses?
The ones that came in those silver vacuum packed cases?
I don't think they account for 100% of them for some reason........

Funny you should mention shoe strings, those shoes are North Face BOA's, they don't actually use shoe strings, but steel cable that you tighten by twisting a ratchet on the heel.

Fuses are NOT illegal nor are they a controlled item. I haven't seen any there in a couple of years but they used to be found pretty fequently at Knob Creek. They normally sold for around $10.

If they are illegal then it is written down somewhere. Please post a link if you know of one.
