Maybe after releasing its payload, the two halves do separate for individual return and landing!  


Yeah, I'm not seeing why it doesn't have a spar between the two tails.

I actually AM an aerospace engineer and don't think that looks structurally sound. But, for what it's worth, over 15 years ago, I did do a very detailed analysis of a configuration that used two C-5 fuselages with a slab between them to hold the rocket (and the tails were joined, not two independent pieces). We were actually going to use the left and right wings from the C-5, just a new straight segment between the two fuselages. Spent 10 days with almost no sleep working that with a bunch of other people because somebody wanted it in a hurry to make a multi-billion dollar decision.

Multi-fuselage aircraft are certainly not new. Most of the ones I've seen that were either built or just concepts looked a lot less ugly than that thing.

Looks like a runway only type aircraft. How do you get from the parking area to the runway? Aren't typical taxiways 75 feet wide? That is the min taxiway width for the C-5.

Article said with 250k fuel it can still carry a 550k payload. So... 275 ish?

They should have went with an OV-10 style tail.

I'm sure it's all fly by wire though, as long as the computer doesn't shit itself it should be all good.

I would assume the rocket would detach from the plane before firing, unless they want hundreds of tons of thrust yanking violently on the center wing.

I'm actually NOT an aerospace engineer, but I have taken enough college math and physics to know that without a stabilized tail like the P-38 Lightening


......that brace between the two fuselages is going to have to be made out of solid titanium infused unobtanium to withstand the X-Y-Z axis stresses of flight, wind gust, weather, weight of 3 rockets and their aerodynamics, computer error, pilot error, etc.

If this thing gets off the ground at all it will have a shorter flight hr log than than Howard Hughs' Spruce Goose.

I've talked to them. 60 hr minimum work week for about 1/2 what you would make working anywhere else. "Working at Space X" is a large part of their compensation package. Their burn out rate for employees is staggering.

If Rutan's company (Scaled Composites) built it, it will do what is requested of it. Looks like an upscaled version of Rutan's "White Knight". It was a launch platform for a manned, single rocket they used for the X-prize competion.
