I cross posted this thread in Team, and the Jobs and Brothers of the Shield forums, but I figured I’d try here too.

I’m a nurse with close to two decades of experience, the last 7 of which have been in home care.

The Veterans Health Administration is preparing to make a firm offer to bring me on board their home care team at one of their facilities. This, after many months of delays due to COVID, bureaucracy moving slowly, multiple background checks, etc. In the interim, I have another home care agency outside of the .gov that really wants to hire me, and at a slightly higher pay rate.

Does anyone here work at the VA in any capacity? And if so, what kind of insights can you share? What’s are the work conditions and culture like? How is the quality of the people you work with?

As an outsider, I think I’d love to work in a secure federal job, taking care of veterans. However, the current political situation and its “leadership” do concern me.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give. This is a huge decision for me.
