Anyone know a workaholic or are you one?

My dad is one. The dude has worked every day of his life. I swear the guy doesn't know how to have fun or relax. He has no hobbies and no friends. He is only slightly happy when he is swindling money out of his customers or counting his money. In his defense he had to provide for himself ever since he turned 18 and put himself through college.

He is starting to reach the age where I know his years are numbered. Though has provided for me financially, I would trade much of that financial support to have actually had a father. It always amazes me when I hang out with my friends and they do stuff with their dad or have an actual relationship with them.

I'm a workaholic. I worked somewhere in the neighborhood of 62 hours this week and I'm going in for a couple more hours on Sunday. I love what I do and I love what the company does.

I'm sorry to hear about the bad relationship with your dad. Have you tried talking to him about this? When I was a kid, my dad had to take a job in another state and I wouldn't see him for months at a time and I wasn't at all close to him until my early 20s. Fortunately we've been able to develop a good relationship in the last few years. I wish you luck with your situation and hope you'll be able to build a good relationship with him.

Im not what you would call a "workaholic" but I do have 2 jobs and at times put in the maximum allowable 60 hours a week. My 2 positions are within different parts of the same organization so it's REALLY worth it. Other than the 2 jobs though I'm pretty much a lazy fucker.

I average about 500 hrs of ot per week which means about 50 hr weeks and rotating shifts.

It would be more fun if it wasn't rotating shifts.

That's pretty good, considering there are only 168 hours in a week. You must be pretty burned out by now!

my normal schedule is 84 hours every 2 weeks, and I usually gain an extra 16-20 with OT. I have no friends, and it seems like if I do take a day off and sit at home, I feel guilty as if I'm cutting class or something.

Pretty much the same here, granted he has accumilated a large amount of money, he still has no joy in just relaxing and has no hobbies.  All of my hobbies he sees as a waste of money, which sucks because I would love to actually share some of the enjoyment with him.  But in reality, I guess it is better than having no father at all, or a very lazy one who did nothing for his family.

The key I guess is to balance your work life and dedication to earning money with actually enjoying yourself with your family.

His inability to balance anything rubbed off on me. It took me YEARs to learn what it meant to enjoy life and wow what a difference having friends and having fun was to my quality of life. I just came to find out how much money my dad has in recent years and it perplexes me even more as to why this guy can't relax.

Today is my first day off in three weeks.

I hate work... and I have a pretty cool job.  Honestly, the only reason I work is to afford the things I like to do in my free time.

I have no major hobbies, I sell the gold I make playing WoW for more money.
I'll still be bored, alone and not getting laid even if I worked 20 hours a week so I'll just work

I am a professional fireman.  My work week is 56 hours.

For 7 years, I worked for myself.  I had one full time employee. 7 days a week I worked.  I scaled back to six days when my oldest son wanted to go fishing with me.

I sold my investment properties, and feel as tho I have retired, despite my continued 56 hour week.

I love working, i just hate my current job.

I'm a 19 year old reservist going to school with a part time job at Charleys ( a sandwich shop most military guys should be familiar with ) i work there cause when i got back it was the first job i could think of, it's a really easy job, with crappy hours ( i get around 18 hours a week ), crappy pay ( 8.75 an hour )

even so, i only feel truly happy at work. A catharsis of emotion. I hate being there, but i love making money.
