What is the reasoning behind going door to door?

I am not trying to be mean or pick on anyone. I just would really like to know the thinking behind this. I don't get any other religion stopping by. I'm not rude when they stop, I talk to them and politely decline.

Matthew 28:19

All authority
in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and
make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, to
the close of the age.

Makes sense now. I guess I was over thinking it or looking for something deeper.

Update

Well they stopped back today. She wanted to apologise for the awkward situation last week. She even wrote me a little note.

I guess I am just at a loss for words.

I would bet dollars to donuts that there are very few if any Jehova's Witnesses on ARFCOM.

They believe that it is evil to fight, even for freedom...

Seriously. Not kidding.

I am not trying to bash their religion, but they don't serve in the military or police because they believe that the bible says "thou shalt not kill." Even though it means, "thou shalt not murder."

So they would say that a P-38 pilot from WWII who saved lives, and fought for America, and for freedom, and who (as a result of their actions) saved the lives of countless people, was a murderer damned to hell. Seriously. Not kidding.

The example they gave me was "think of how many Catholics killed Catholics in WWII, that is why J.W. don't fight." When I first heard that, I was flabbergasted. Of all wars to use as an example, they would use WWII. Of any examples of lopsided good vs. evil, they would use WWII. And like there were any soldiers on either side who was doing anything but trying to stay alive. Like any woke up one morning and said "I hope I can kill my brother today." War is hell, but it is sometimes the only way to preserve freedom...

I went "door to door" in Australia as a Mormon missionary.

It was a way to meet people in their homes. And share our message. The truth is, it was a lot more effective to meet people other ways, and teach people who asked us to teach them either through finding us, or through media.

But we did it, and we had a lot of success with it sometimes, if you measure success by the numbers of people who let us in, and came to church on Sunday after meeting us.

It is one of the key commands that Jesus gave his followers, and it is the example they set (they taught in the public places, went from house to house, and taught in the temples & synagogues).  Because of the fact that JWs try to model their actions after Jesus & his earliest followers, they do the same.

ETA:  In the original thread, I detailed why JWs take the positions they do on military service, etc.

Not true, I was a witness for a while.
They believe you get to heaven by works, not faith.

Not so!  They believe that salvation is a gift that can't be earned, BUT that obedience to God's commands are vital so as not to be disqualified. I was a very committed JW for 25 years.
