So, my roomie and I get home and instead of being able to finish up projects from the weekend we are stuck fighting a weird

router issue.( Lynksis router BTW )   The secured use profile we had set up just "shut down".   It suddenly seemed to not exist. ...nor can we get it to re-activate. You can't see it on the list of available networks

but it is available in the "manage wireless networks" area in the  control panel.  but you can't do anything with the profile...it won't connect or anything.

Oddly,  it will allow wired Ethernet communications AND/OR an unsecured WiFi access...gut I can't even get it to create a new, WEP or WAP@ encrypted profile that works.

Is this a firmware or software issue with the router?

Anyone ever have a router do that before???

Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

Did you fully reset the router?

The " 'manage wireless networks' area in the  control panel" has nothing to do with internal router settings, it is simply the place where you can view/edit the credentials that are stored in your OS (I'm assuming Windows). Also, when people say firmware they are usually referring to the internal software of the device, stored in non-volatile memory - so I'm sorry for my confusion with your question.

Your best bet is to login to the router over an Ethernet connection (which invovles punching in a default IP like 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and entering an administrator username/password) to edit the settings of the network. I'm not sure if you tried when you say "create a new, WEP or WAP encrypted profile."

If you already tried that, second best bet is to hold the tiny reset button on the back of the router to reset it to factory settings, and then try logging in as described above.

If all that doesn't work, and the router is more than a few years old, looks like its time for a new one. Best of luck, hope that helped.

Deimo and RDP, this seems to be the consensus.  Yes, I did do everything from a powerdown to an actual, button pushin' reset.  My roomie has an IT/IS buddy that he called and he concurred almost word for word what you guys are saying.  I am thinking that the router was a victim of a firmware update.....

You should see what a firmware update is doing to my Zeiss Coordinate Measuring Machine.    Thank God Zeiss' techs are on site dealing with that!!!!

Thanks again for the help, guys.  It looks like you were spot on.
