Ok, so I shutdown Windows Update due to Microsoft sending out those Win10 auto-upgrade updates....

Now, how do I keep that Win10 Upgrade from happening but also get the updates that I need?

I bet I'm not the only user who shut off updates due to that Win10 BS!

I MS still doing that?

Thanks,   I also had to include optional update KB3184143 to kill all the Win10 BS.

I can't help it.  Ya'll with your "I'm so cool I disabled all ma' updates" and now you're crying because you're vulnerable to an attack MS patched for you four months ago.

It utterly validates MS' decision to remove the update frequency and reboot frequency decision from users in Windows 10.

Is Microsoft still trying to send Windows 10 to machines 'Just in case' you might want to upgrade?  Or did they stop that practice?   I've not been paying much attention to IT lately.

This is a discussion board.  Discussion happens when people post things.  You don't have to like it.  When you post something silly, expect to hear about it.

The Windows 10 free upgrade is no longer available.  You have to buy it now.  As far as I can tell, it is no longer auto-upgrading, although it never really actually did.

Auto upgrading happened to many people, against their wishes. Many of them not Microsoft Certified Sales Agents.
Because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Last I checked the Windows 10 upgrade was still available if you use the assistive technology.   You can get it but I don't think they're pushing it anymore.

I think most of them were people who pushed the button to upgrade.  The upgrade did download by itself, but it required user action to actually install.

That's why I shut off the auto update.  Seems that the consensus is that MS is no longer playing those games, so then I guess I'll re-enable Windows Update.

I can't help but think that MS is at least partly to blame for so many un-patched systems......

Microsoft screwed people on that.   IIRC it popped up and said it was going to install and just closing the window which a lot of people did let it continue.   A lot of people didn't understand what was going on and closed the window because they didn't want it.  That's a change in the normal behavior you get in Windows and I don't blame them for being pissed.

this is *exactly* what Microsoft did to my 72 year old mother.
pressing "X" to close the window started the install.
