A game application is screwed up and the fix is to delete a user preference file contained in one of the sub-folders of the "Documents & Settings" folder on the C: drive.

The OS software* will not allow me to have access and is telling me "Access is denied", even when I log on as the administrator (as opposed to logging on as a user).

I have tried to change the Folder's security settings to allow the Admin to have "Full Control" but it will not allow me to change the setting.

It's my damned computer ! ! !, how do I access this folder???

*  All my computers are running legitimate copies of Windows 7.

Try booting in safe mode and logging in as administrator

the system owns documents and settings  show your hidden folders and look under users folder, app data . you could take ownership but you're probably digging a hole.

I don't know if this matters but I've never seen a Win 7 system that uses the "Documents and Settings" folder.  That went away with XP and 7 and up just uses a "Users" folder.

I wouldn't change ownership of Documents and Settings on a Win7 box.  You're literally just going to break it.  Nuke and pave and be done.
