Ok, I am getting ready for a PC overhaul.

Right now I have an Asus P5Q Pro MoBo, Q9550 CPU, 2x1gb DDR2 RAM, and a 500 GB HDD.  OS is Win XP SP3.

What I am going to have is the same Asus Mobo and Q9550 CPU but I am going to up the RAM from 2GB to at least 4GB (though 6GB or even 10 or 16 is possible with this MoBo), add a 60GB SSD, and Win7 64bit.

By question right now is Win7 Pro or Win7 Ultimate??

What is the difference?

Thanks!

Here is a website where you can decide for yourself which one to get:

I seriously doubt you need Ultimate. You may not even need the Pro version. The Home Premium might be just fine.

There is only a $40 price difference between Win7Pro and Win7Ultimate.

Correct, however on that SSD primary drive, he might not want to have all that extra stuff form Ultimate taking up space on it. 64GB will get small quick if he just crams stuff on there. Just something to think about.

IMO SSDs are over rated for their price and the fact that you can only write to it so many times before the sectors die worries me.

For the cost of a 64GB SSD you can get a 2 1TB hard drives

Wear leveling. A current SSD will last quite a while.
