This carrier is in the 70,000 tonne range, with a projected air wing of 40 aircraft, 50 at full load according to the wiki.
I figure the 'typical' fixed wing complement will be 30 F-35Bs with the rest being SAR, EW and AEW helos. Probably Likely some persistence ISR drones as well. Speaking of fixed wing, it seems they've settled on leaving out the catapult and arrestor wires. My gut tells me this is a good size for mass STOVL ops but would be borderline for catapult type stuff. Personally I don't see a real drawback to the B model. Yes, there is the 460nm range vs 610nm for the C model. But that 460nm range is still better than the Superhornet at 390nm (but we'll just call it 400). But hey, we'll find out if the CVV concept LINK has any legs. (official designation is CVF). |

If we make a carrier with that stupid ramp we deserve to have some other Country take over America.

I see a major problem:
28,800 slices of bacon for 1600 people for 45 days...... This is just one slice of bacon every 2.5 days, completely unacceptable. |
|
That's only under duress. It is actually 4.5 rashers of bacon per day / redcoat.
What is the mythical Merlin-like power responsible for this stupendousness? Underway Replenishment. |

The nomenclature is fleet carrier iirc.
Eta. Vertical landing only? Sounds more like a supersized LPH or LHA than a fleet carrier. |
|
IMHO stovl is a mistake. The C variant of the F35 is better and cats let you take up more ordinance. Plus you could get Superbugs as well. I think the decision was mostly about timing, as the new electromagnetic cats aren't going to be available for foreign sales for several more years. There is an option to switch once they become available, but I don't see the RN having the will to buy a bunch of C models after buying all the Bs.

Our 100 ton carriers handle 90 aircraft.
Most other countries have aircraft carriers that are 35-55 tons holding 30-40ish aircraft. This is 70 ton and and 50 max aircraft. How does that work? |

With such limited supplies of bacon on board, they are going to have a mutiny on their hand before they ever pull out of port. You can't expect a civilized person to fucntion on such limited quantities of bacon. It's a starvation diet.

They've come a long way though - now to get them to accept the true and proper bacon. |

Leave it to arfcom, a cool air craft carrier, and all we focus on is the lack of proper bacon.

But that's just me. A better alternative to the helo would be some Osprey equipped with ISR. |

Ships should be named after people only after they are dead.
In the Brits' case, they are best named after really cool words of Courage, Perseverance, and Indominitablilty. |
