I know we all cuss it royally, but why in the world do we have such a long Christmas shopping period anyway? There is a reason for the lengthy season - what is it? Eric The(DoorPrizesWillBeAwarded-TellMeWhereToSendYourDoor!)Hun[>]:)]

Discount prices and huge sales. The Saturday before Christmas has bumped the day after Thanksgiving off of its throne.

C'mon Norm_G, my offer of a door prize didn't give it away as a question? No there's a very good reason and it's a very historical reason. One that you all should appreciate even if you don't believe in either Jesus or Santa! Eric The(LooksLikeI'mGonnaKeepMyDoor)Hun[>]:)]

Gee, guys, remember World War II? Well in order for the families at home to buy Christmas gifts for their sons and be able to mail them for delivery in time for Christmas, they had to shop early! The US Post Office folks them to shop early! The Armed Services encouraged the families to shop early and mail early to insure delivery before Christmas. And, of course, the merchants reminded the families to shop early, as well! World War II was the first of our nation's foreign wars where it was actually possible to insure mail delivery to the front lines. Eric The(I'llKeepMyDoor)Hun[>]:)] BTW, Merry Christmas to one and all!
