Whats the big deal about cheating?

Why would you care if somebody cheats at something?

If they cheat in school, then the slip of paper that says they learned to be a self-teaching human being is inaccurate.

Ask this question again after an engineer cheats his way through life and designs something that fails and turns you into a quadriplegic.

The ole' man always used to say, "cheaters never prosper"

I don't know if he was right, but I never found out.

Guess because it's wrong.

Cheating is lying. It's fraud. It's nearly a form a theft.

Taking that which you have not earned is wrong, whether it's a salary, a job, a diploma or grades.

A man only really has his Word and his Honor.  Everything else can be taken away from you.  Your money, house, car.  Even your freedom and your life can be taken from you.
Only YOU can go back on your Word.
Only YOU can lose your Honor.

Sadly some things can't be taught.

It's not often that I am unable to form a cognitive thought in response to a question. This is one of those "not often" moments.

Cheating is wrong because it is deception.

Ill assume this is a serious question even tho it appears here. The simple answer is cheating isn't a victimless event, would you like to be cheated?

Baseball: If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying!

Personally every time I tried to make a cheat sheet for a test in school I learned the material by writing it down.

I had one teacher that used to let you make up a one page cheat sheet for tests. Once again, after spending all the time writing it out I knew it.

My SIL was teaching a EMT course and these 2 brothers were texting answers to each other. Both were flunked and blackballed by the local ambulance and fire departments.

You don't want your EMT to not know his trade.

You have to ask?

1.  It demonstrates a lack of character.
2.  In many cases it is illegal.
3.  Same reasons no one likes a liar or thief.
4.  A cheater, liar, and thief are essentially one in the same.  They are seeking benefit by means void of honesty, integrity, and/or genuine personal accomplishment.
5.  Once exposed, your reputation is seriously damaged, possibly for life.
6.  Once you start cheating it snowballs into other areas of life.
7.  A real man doesn't, weasels do.

When you cheat you are not only lying, you are not learning what you are supposed to.

In my profession not knowing what you're supposed to kills people.

Beat.

Cheating says "Hey employer, when you trust me with your company's time and money to do something...I'm probably not going to know how to it properly...thus costing you time and money"

Who do you want as your surgeon, the guy who actually learned his business or the guy who cheated his way through school?
Who do you want defending you in a court of law, the cheater or the guy who knows the law?
Who do you want as your wife, the gal who takes her word to be faithful seriously or the gal who sees more weiners than Oscar Meyer?

Need I go on?

If a person will lie about something, they're a flimsy rationalization away from lying about anything.  There are few things in life that are black and white, but this is one of them.

Is it cheating write the Right Hand Rule on your hand for a physics test? Should physics be testing your memorization or understanding of the material?

I don't want anyone telling me I am doing wrong if I cheat

If you think its wrong, fine. I don't so don't impose your 'morals' on me.

There is no standard of right and wrong.

I'll decide for myself

If you have to write it on your hand, you don't really understand it.

If you needed to sew an "L" and "R" on all of your shirt sleeves, would it be fair to say you don't know your left from your right?

This is valid to a point.  I could never really cheat on the tests my good professors give, as they do a good job of testing your understanding instead of just simple regurgitation

Not really.
