If Wilson combat mags for 1911's come in 7 or 8 rnd configuration, & they are the same length, what would be the reason for chosing the 7 rounder over the 8?

Because the 8 round mag is 99.99% reliable, and the 7 round mag is 99.999% reliable.

So that's really the only reason?

Seriously, yes.

7 rnd mags have proven to be more reliable than 8 rounders in general.

WC is definitely the way to go for 1911s...I have 3 7-rounders just for my Kimber Ultra CDP and they function F-L-A-W-L-E-S-S-L-Y...

I've used the 7s for quite a while.  And in some shit hole situations - the 7s are absolutely the best (compared to other brands).

I called Wilson, and asked how could they manage to get 8 rounds in a 7 round mag.

Guy told me they made the follower concave instead of convex, and took one (or was it two?) loops out of the spring.

I asked him, in his experience with sales, customer stories, etc which mags were more reliable - he said the 7s.

That convinced me to stick with the 7s.

Plus, I don't like it when I force an 8 into the weapon with a loaded chamber; I don't like feeling that mag spring compress that much.

(I posted the call info a while back...I'll check the Archive because I can't remember how many loops they removed from the spring)
EDIT:  Nevermind - search gave me 11 pages and I'm not that curious...
