In a relationship a guy is willing to change, do things he normally wouldn't, learns to say 'yes' just to appease and make things work. The 'one' time that he stands his ground and is unwilling to be swayed, says 'NO' for a change... he's instantly an unappreciative asshole?

Because you set the groundwork to get run over. Simple as that. You gave the girl the impression that she was the one in charge and once those reins were taken away from her, you became the bad guy.

You should never have to change to be in a relationship (outside the normal maturing and growing that happens naturally). You definately should not appease your partner, that will just make your life miserable. What kind of person are you if you're miserable? I think you may have created a mess!?
