I love mine, get it. I can't think of anything bad about it.Well there is a bit of trigger slap but for what the cost what do you want.  Finish isn't the greatest but who cares it's an AK. Mags are dirt cheap under $10, ammos cheap, great shooter. I'm sure theres better but I say buy it.

I recently bought a Sar-2 from Aimsurplus.  239 is hard to beat.  The wood looked excellent and it was very nice.  I've shot it a couple times now and it is an awesome gun.  No kick at all, just boing.  (The spring)   It is pretty accurate @ 100 yards and the mags are cheap.   Ammo is just a little more expensive than the 7.62x39 but still cheaper than .223

Go for it,  hell buy two at that price.

Sar 2 on top and Sar 1 on the bottom.  I got them both at the same time.

Brouhaha,

SAR-2s may be a little rough out of the box finish wise, but they have a greater range and are more accurate than 7.62x39.  The black one groups 2"@100M, and will probably get a little tighter if I sandbag it.  The top pic is a SAR-2 with a US made KVAR polymer stock and Cobra collimeter.  I added the brake,  It has had zero malfunctions, but does have trigger slap from the U.S. made fire control.  The next pic is a Romak II with East German furniture, and it too, has had zero malfunctions.  The bottom pic is a stock SAR-2 and the modified black one that shows the additional length of both the stock and brake.  The only disadvantage these have compared to a CAR is the CAR is capable of a rapid mag change, and is a little more accurate (sights are better, too, but the Cobra offsets that).  Others have had malfunctions with these rifles, due to the substitute US replacement of the OEM fire control, in order to have the pistol grip configuration.  I have a total of $600 into the black rifle, and about $475 into the EG configured one.  This is a very good buy in the $250 range, and there is no comparable rifle in that range.

Jim

Brouhaha, I had one but got rid of it because of the ammo.  I have a SAR-1 & a SSR85C (Global Trades AK) and didn't want another caliber.  I did shoot about 500rds thru it and it functioned flawlessly.  I love the Romainan AKs.  I think you will enjoy it.  I did have to file away some of that bakelite stuff to make the mags work right.  Where are you going to order it from?  You are in the Houston area if memory serves me.

I have one and it's a great little gun. As was previously mentioned, for $230, how can you go wrong? Cheap ammo and mags, makes liberals go into uncontrolable shakes. Just pissing off a gun-grabber is worth it [:D]

Does your cleaning rod protrude past the stop?  Mine does and I can't figure out if it's just my SAR2 or all SAR2s.

Anyone have the same problem?

Yep, mine does it too.  It only happens on my Sar2, doesn't happen on my SAR1's.

Nuckles&Hiram,

The stock, threaded front sight assembly, brake, and mags are from KVAR.  They were out of brakes, but I heard Global Trades is selling US produced ones that fit the 22mm Romy thread base.  I'm grouping 2" at 100m with Wolf ammo, which is why I've sold off all of my 7.62x39.  It isn't AR accurate, but its close enough for government work.  Here's a photo instruction set I created as derived from Campybob's written set:

I also have a SAR2. I had Informer put on the Rom Brake and sight base for me a s well as refinish it. SWEEEEEETTTT. Haven't had the time to sight it in yet however so I cannot comment on it's accuracy.

God those guns look sweet! Fuck why did Canada have to ban the AK!

BTW love that black SAR 2, looks like a AK100 variant in that config.
