[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Which single stack 9MM? (Page 1 of 3)

I handled a Smith and Wesson Shield in 9mm yesterday and kind of like it, just not enough to drop $500 on something that's only marginally smaller than my Glock 26. I need to be convinced.
I want something easier to carry than my Glock 26. I know the 26 is small already, I carried it for many years. I want to go smaller/thinner. I don't want a .380. Which single stack 9mm is best/smallest? Show your work. Go. |
| I just bought a bersa bp9cc glock off, don't have it yet but it gets good reviews and they're like $ 300...8+1 striker fired polymer pistol, it does have an integral lock though and there are not a ton of holsters. Bersa's usa distributor sells Italian holsters that are leather but with a thumb snap. Aline gear has them and there are some on amazon |

A shield is $500? Shit mine was just a hair over 400 with sales tax. If you look around you can find shields for in the mid 300's. Quoted at $500 at Blueline Tactical in Elmsford, NY. I was wearing my Submariner at the time, so who the fuck knows. I'm definitely waiting for the Glock at this point. |

NY might be different though as I can imagine the cost of doing business is high. |

The Ruger LC9S is nice, and inexpensive, too.
I prefer the Sig P938. I smiled at the P7 recommendations; I had one, but learned quickly that my 1911 Commander was just as thin, weighed less (alloy frame) and carried as many rounds, except they had .45 boolits in them. So, I sold the P7, though the recent surge in prices make it clear that I should have kept it for a while. |

Walther PPS Thin, no superfluous safety unlike the Shield, accurate, and a delight to carry concealed. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/180graingoldot/IMG_20141118_120141_zps90cbebe2.jpg What he said. It shoots very well for pistol of its size too. |

Quantico Tactical has no safety Shields for $324.99. I'm not sure you can do better for that price. I have a G26 as well, but it lives in the safe now that I have a Shield. The manual of arms is the same. Only if you're LE/military or first responder or private security. Commercial pricing is not available. OP, $500 is way too much for a Shield. You should be able to get one for about $400 even after shipping and transfer fee. I love the Shield. It's a great little pistol. I really like my Kahr CM9. It's a nice little single stack 9mm. The PM9 is a little more expensive but has polygonal rifling if that's your thing. Also, the sights are dovetail and it has slightly better finished machining. I didn't care about that and wanted a rifled barrel so the CM9 is a win for me. I haven't shot a PPS, but a lot of people like them. There is always a Sig P239 although it's a little on the heavy side. |

I think i'm going to get a Shield this week to use as a carry gun. I tried one over the weekend and I like the grip and the way it shoots but the pivoting trigger is horrid. If I do get one I'll install the Apex trigger before I take it to the range for the first time. That plus some Trijicon sights and I have $700 into a $400 pistol. I wish manufacturers would just use better parts to begin with rather then going through the hassle of fixing a new gun. Also the 8 round mag with grip extension feels loose and makes getting a grip on it somewhat awkward, I'll stick with the 7 rounders.
I preferred the Shield over the XD-S which had an odd feeling grip. If Glock had a single stack 9mm I'd own it already but even if they introduced one tomorrow it'll be back ordered for a year. ETA: So I bought the shield today and I take back what I said about the trigger, it's still way too heavy but this one breaks cleanly. I still orderd the Apex kit to reduce the pull weight. Overall I'm happy with it. |
