I always like to plan way ahead of time and I'm thinking about an ACOG next year.

It will go on a Noveske 11.5" stainless build and will be shot out to 300 yards and anywhere below that, mostly M193 but some 77gr SMKs are likely also.

It will be a general purpose gun.

I know we have technical sections for this stuff, but what fun is that?

I've looked at the TA31 and the eye relief sucked on my longer stocks, but with the 11.5 I'll be right up in the charging handle so it's not an issue.

Is the TA31 not recommended?

I'm finishing a 12" build and plan on picking up a ta33h-g.

Contemplated using a crosshair model, but too little upside for me.

My 16" has ta11f on it,  very happy with it but too heavy for an sbr.

I'm another vote for the TA33, but it's the only one I own, so I'm partial to it.

I'm going to paraphrase from the thread in tech.

You can only have 2:
1) Eye relief
2) Field of view
3 Weight

TA31/TA01 = Large field of view, light weight

TA33 = Good eye relief, light weight

TA11 = Good eye relief, Good field of view.

I'd recommend a TA11, unless weight is an issue, then TA33.

I've had TA01s in the past. I had to ditch the backup sight to get proper eye relief. I've moved on to 1-4/1-6x variables, but still have a TA33 that I'm not getting rid of.

Just watched a video on them, the TA33 does appear to be better for me.

I have an 11, 33, 47 and a few 31's.  They all have their pluses and minuses and I love them all.

The 31 is a great optic and if the eye relief works for you then get it.  It's the one that "pops" the most and the FOV IS fantastic.

Odd one here.

I'm going with a TA01nsn and a piggybacked rds at a later date.

I've had BAC models and want one that's more precise.

Plus for a 12.5" the BDC is actually close to functional.

M193 / 12.5 / TA01nsn

M193 / 12.5 / TA-33 (horseshoe)

The TA33 is close as well, but this is going to be a shooting steel (200-500y) gun and used for various plinking. I want a finer aiming point and while the TA33 is slick it's also on the narrow side for me as I don't shoot both eyes open with an ACOG, that's for my rds topped rifles.

^ also the 2800fps was roughly the average of all the various M193 and clones I chronoed.

You won't regret it. I've had several different acogs. I only have the 33 now. Well, that and red dots.

For the money you are going to spend on one, I would recommend trying them out at a gun show or shop.  TA11 or TA33, for eye relief mostly.  See which is better or OK for you.   Also reticle color.  Some people seem to say green is best.  But i checked them out at the last NRA exhibits this past spring.  My eyes did not seem to respond as well to the green as they did the red ones.  So it probably differs for everyone.

I have a TA31 and TA01 and love them both. I tried the TA33 but wasn't a fan of it.

It just comes down to personal preference.
