No way I could embarras you guys....even if I wanted to!
I came to the working out scene in 1995 after a bowhunting trip for Elk in the Bitterroot Mountains that showed me how out of shape I had let myself get into.
I lifted with two goals in mind:
1-To try not to get injured(obviously failed)
2-To get into some semblance of a strong and fit body.
The first goal should hint to you that I do not workout with heavy weights because of fear!
I am only 5'10" and weight 190 pounds. To make things worse I am 54 years old and terrified of hurting my back.So I take it easy.
Before I tore the triceps, I was squating 350 lbs for sets of 10 reps and benching sets typically like this:
warm up-2 x 10 at 140 lbs
1 x 10 at 190
1 x 8 at 210
1 x 6 at 230
1 x 4 at 240
and topped it off with 1 x 10 at 190 which felt great!
The triple bicep barbell curl I love so much, I did with an easy bar at 70lbs(3 sets).Never went up in weight.
I built it up instead, by starting with single sets (wide grip)...then as I got stronger after a few weeks went to double curls(superset of wide and middle grips) and finally triple (superman) sets.
I am now working out with dumbbells because of the bum arm until it heals, and it's funny to see people's faces when they see me working out with a 60lbs on the right and a 10 lbs on the left![:)]
In 4 months I will hopefully go back to the previous workouts, but I will be closer to 55 years of age and things don't work the same when you are old.
Stay healthy guys, and hand out here to exchange tips and support each other.
