I just took in a Colt AR variant that I can't find in any books. It is marked "Colt Model A03 Carbine" The serial number is BK0008XX. The rifle has a stainless 20" barrel even though the receiver is marked carbine. The original owner gave me the original purchase receipt and says the gun has not been modified or fired, and that appears to be true.

AO3 = navy occupation w/pay grade (Aviation ordnance???)
most likely in this case to be
EOD.(Explosive Ordnance Disposal)
EOD uses carbines for detonating mines
and other unexploded ordnance.
I have never heard of any Colt
with that model designation though.

I doubt it but maybe some commanding officer
loved an AO3 so much
that they gave him
a one off as a going away present
upon recieving orders.
Or it's flat out phony.
Anyhow around here sometimes
a wrong answer is the only
way to get a right one.

Here is an AO3 with his carbine.

LOL. Ya got that right!

Sometimes you just have to force the right answer by stating a wrong one. [:D]

Not that I would ever do such a thing. [rolleyes]

On topic. What came to my mind was a model 6724. It had a 24" or 26" stainless barrel on a flat top with no front sight. It was marked 'CAR3', wasn't it? Could this be what you are looking at?

BK is the prefix for a CAR3

The 6724 is a flat top Colt Accurized Rifle w/ 24 inch stainless 1/9 twist free floated barrel
and a JP trigger.

The other odd one was
the Tactical Elite.
This one had a 20 inch 1/8 twist super heavy
free floated barrel w/ rubberized handguards
and a funky buttstock made by Choate
or someone. There were 1000 made,
and I used to see them advertised in
shotgun news adds when they were first made available.
The rifle described here is not one of
those either.
