Other then otterbox who makes the best, most rugged (preferably water resistant) iPad protective cover out there. I will most likely get a Otterbox or GumDrop case for mine if I can't find a better option.

What says the Hive?

I have the folding cover that Apple sells (which I'm not crazy about), and the whole thing slides nicely into this sleeve (which I love).

I bought the Roklock for my work iPad
Very disappointed. There was no way in hell of putting on the screen protector without getting a bunch of bubbles under it. I know this wasn't amongst the choices but just in case you were thinking about it, I wouldn't recommend it.

That's what I have. I bought the Griffin survivor, and actually really liked it, but I found it to be a little too bulky and heavy. I have no doubt that it would protect the ipad very well though. I have the lifeproof one now, much lighter and seems well made. Probably not as much drop protection though, just depends on what you want.

I've looked at that but don't like how it doesn't Necessary have a screen protector. I was about to order one until I found that out. I know iPads are supposed to have really scratch proof screens I'm just afraid I'd scratch it on accident. At least with a screen protector you can always replace it a lot easier then the glass on the iPad

I prefer more drop protection but also wouldn't mind something to protect in case of spills

A friend of mine has that one of those and he recommended that one also. Are the waterproof/resistant?

Zagg makes a screen protector specifically for the case. I bought one but don't know if I will use it, I'm not a big fan of having anything on the screen hence the reason I bought this case.

Good choice. It is a little big, but damn, it's SOLID!

After watching a bunch of YouTube videos that showed people beating the crap out of it I feel it's the best choice. The only thing that it failed at was when one video shows a guy throwing an iPad mini with otterbox into the air from on top of a tall building into the parking lot. The screen failed, It didn't break the glass but it broke the way I was displayed. Then they threw the same iPad mini off the roof wearing a griffin. It dented the corner and shattered the screen glass. but I bet it was already week from the first throw with the otter box. I don't plan on throwing it off a roof.

It may not be waterproof but it is water resistant for upto an hour in rain which leads me to believe it would be okay with a quick spill and a fast cleanup.

This is the video I saw where they beat it up (a few others did the same thing but this is nuts, unless they had multiple iPads and didn't show you the broken ones this thing seems legit.

is the griffin survivor better than the otterbox defender?

I don't know the exact answer because I don't have either yet. But for my experience on my iPhone case I LOVE my otterbox however my only complaint is the "rubber" cover becomes loose over time and comes off. From a few things I found the rubber fits tighter and for longer on the griffin. The plastic looks a bit "thicker" on the otter box then the griffin especially in some areas (corners) from what I can tell in videos and pictures. However, the rubber is thicker so it looks like that makes up for it in those places (most of the stuff I found was from last version griffin, except one video of a guy showing the new one he got. So they could have improved the plastic. I just wouldn't be able to tell unless I had two side by side.

They look like they both have their positives and negatives both look about the same quality wise and protection wise with drop protection from what I can tell. I just like that I can button up the griffin and protect it from rain/dust. So all personal preference.
