do you see the subscribe button up to the right of the screen. It used to be called tag. Posting tag is just a way to subscribe to a thread. or tagscribe

It will then go to your subscriptions.

Sort of.

In the old days before we had the "subscribe" button, the only way for a thread to show up in your "My Active Topics" (the old version of "Subscriptions"), was to post in the thread. When people just wanted to "Subscribe" to the thread, they would post "tag" or "tagged" as a post.

A tag will show up in a search - subscribing won't...I think.

Now it's used so that people can find where they left off in reading the thread.

I use it to give the thread a free bump, and to let the OP know that, while I don't have anything in particular to contribute, I found his or her thread to be beneficial and of interest, and thus not a waste of his or her time.
