That is, what gun do you feel gives the most "bang for the buck" in terms of ergonomics, accuracy, fit and finish, reliability, etc.

My only rules are....

Rifle, handgun, shotgun...doesn't matter.

NIB firearms only. C&R's do count I suppose, but they have to be in new or unissued condiditon. Not the K98 you bought off your snot nosed cousin for $50.

You can't count that one unbelievable deal you got at the gun show, I am talking about "normal market prices" on a paticular firearm.

Price is no object. If there is a $200 gun or $20,000 gun out there that you feel gives the most performance for the dollar, let's hear it.

Springfield XD line comes to mind for a relatively cheap handgun that seems to be reliable.

CZ-75B is still a good buy.
Remington 870 Express is another one.
Savage centerfire bolt guns.

Thats about it.

I knew there would be cracks in my rules.

I'll allow the CMP Garands. Surprised I didn't think of that. This may be the winner.

I bought a cz-52 for $100 once. It is more accurate than my kimber. The trigger sucks but I learned to live with it. Shoots very flat at range. Has functioned 100%.

Browning Buckmark....Well I put some aftermarket wood grips with a thumb rest....but pretty much out the box....

Even with the stock grips it feels good.

The sights are great easy to adjust.

The trigger is crisp and very nice.

Slide lock and mag release are easy to get with the thumb.

recoil is pretty substantial for a .22 but managable.

acurate as can be. Usually sub 2.5" at 25 off hand.

And it just looks nice.

That's why he's a professor. I was going to say Glock police trade-ins, but a CMP Garand is hard to beat.

mosin nagant hands down. an excellent, durable firearm. 7.62x54r packs plenty of punch, cheap surplus ammunition is widely available for plinking, and a variety of soft tip rounds are vailable for hunting and defense.

all for $60-80

who cares if it doesn't have the prettiest wood? it's one hell of a rifle.

ETA: i just noticed the NIB part

in that case, my vote goes for the 870 express. after rebates, both of mine ran $175 each. it's a well built shotgun, and is more then capable of taking game, breaking clays, and defense.

of $2,500 for a true HK ?

Any Ruger P series, Remington 870's are a great buy for the prices I see at gun shows, and the low end Springfield 1911's.

Stevens 200 in .308 or 30-06, or other excellant calibers. You all should give a serious look at it for survival/bugout situations.

Nope. The Swiss rifles are 7.5x55.
My Swede M38 is 6.5x55 and my favorite C&R but is overpriced now since they became scarce. It will shoot with the K-31- both are more accurate then I am.

Mil Gun Supp has NIB polish P-64 in 9x18 Makarov for 139$$ Great little pistol, and I mean little. I did my own trigger job, and the gun is a dream.

Shotgun:
New = Mossberg 500 series, or maybe even the Maverick, milsurp/import/etc. = Norinco trench gun copies

Handgun:
New = Sig Pro, milsurp/import/etc. = Makarov

Rifle:
New = dunno...$400 at WalMart for a NIB Win. Model 70 is pretty good milsurp/import/etc. = Mosin Nagant, or K31

Used S&W service revolvers. Glock police trade-ins.

Mossberg M500 and Rem870 express.

Swiss K-31 and the discontinued Winchester model 70 Ranger series rifles.

And any number of kit-built AR15's...

ETA... I would have also went along with the Mosin-Nagant, except for their sights are nearly impossible to adjust, and the safety is an atrocity. Totally inappropriate for hunting use. Too difficult to engage/disengage.

I cannot be happy enough with my Steyr M9 and I got it last summer from CDNN for $249. I think it is a better pistol than others I paid well over twice that for.
