I got "Buddie" out of the local no-kill animal shelter two weeks ago. I think he's Austrailian Shepherd/some kind of collie mix.

What do you think?

+1 If his tongue is black or purple their is some Chow.  But I still agree Collie and Lab.  Shaggy medium hair that is quickly filmy if not bathed often right.  My former roomate had a Collie/Chow mix named Crash except he was Auburn and Orange his being all black and not brindle leads me to guess Lab.

Ha! No tail at all, just a nub.

His tounge is pink, so I'm thinking that if there's any Chow in this mutt, it's pretty far back. The S.O.B. is loyal as hell in just two weeks - follows me wherever I go in the house.

Seems pretty bright, too - the "towel-over-the-head-intelligence-trick" results in him immediately flipping the towel off, and a happy pant. He picked up "stay" and "shake" immediately; I suspect the former owner gave him rudimentary training of some sort.

Doesn't really want to chase the ball very much, but pulls like a friggin' horse. I agree with the part lab/part collie mix thing, although the Aussie part is probably 1/2, as there's no tail. He wags his whole rear end! I think that the "pulling" shows off serious sled-dog genetics.

Roger that! Tomorrow's wifey's and my day off, and we're gonna experiment with the flying disc in a dog park - a fully enclosed dog park, at that. I don't fully trust him,  yet!

"Buddy" must be the most popular name for dogs at shelters.

My brother got a beautiful dog from a shelter.  The shelter named it "Eddie".  I think they have a list, and just go down the list again and again.

Good job on rescuing the dog, though.  He looks really sweet.
