Stopped in there today to price out some items and as I was walking by the gun section something impossibe caught my eye. I had to turn around and check it out. There at the end of the row of rifles were 3 Bushmaster AR15s. They had a shorty, a rifle, and a free-floated model, not sure which one since - of course - no one was behind the counter to help me. Made me want to take a picture, but I don't carry around a camera... Prices were too high though... 900 - 975 range. |

Better than one of the stores around me... Went to one of the gun stores near me yesterday. I'm vauguly looking for a straight-stocked AK...got one on the hook, but there are issues, so lookin's free. Anyway...so I go in, and I see this AK sittin there. I ask the guy behind the counter if I can see it, he says sure, and hands it to me. I look at it...it has newish unoiled forestocks, and a heavily oiled/finished buttstock. I give it a once over... Guy behind the counter says it's a pre-ban, and it's great. It's a freaking WASR-10, modified by the angry beavers. Says so on the reciever. I take out the mag, check the chamber, spend 20 seconds trying to get the mag to seat correctly again, and hand it back. The mag well area looked like 4 angry children had at it with hammers...getting the mag to seat was more difficult than landing an aircraft. He wanted $400 for it. |

He's not smoking, Wal-Marts here do carry AR-15's now, and they also sell handguns. Its not due to lack of FFL's, It's just that they choose to carry them; it is not politically incorrect to sell guns in Alaska. Hopefully a bunch of do-gooders don't come up here and change things. There are at least 7 other places to buy guns within about 3 miles of that Wally World. Shadowblade, did you check out Sportman's Warehouse yet? I wasn't impressed with their prices. |
| Well, I will defend Wal-mart this time. I stopped by a large gun store in the area that I used to drive through all the time. I was looking for a chamber brush for my ar and couldn't find one on the hook. So I asked for it and about some AR mags. The clerk/jerk behind the counter says "we don't sell those kinds of guns here. We only deal with sporting arms." WTF?!?!?!?! |

Quoted: There was someone here about a year ago who saw a preban Colt SP-1 in a KMart in Alaska. I've gotta move there one day, sounds like my kinda place. Haha... Yeah, that was me, except it wasn't a preban. I wasn't smoking anything, and I wasn't dreaming [:)] I know they will order just about anything you want, but have never seen them just up there on the rack before today. One of the regular Walmart gun counter guys is also a home FFL, so he would order it even if Walmart wouldn't. No, I haven't looked at the prices at the Bushmaster site lately... But around here $900 is at least $100 to high. TrksnGuns - I did check out Sportsmans Warehouse yesterday. In fact, I installed the automatic doors on the front of the building, just never had a chance to check out the store when I was doing that.[:)] It was too crowded for me to check out the gun prices, but I wasn't real impressed with the prices on other things. I did talk to another customer that said the gun prices were good, but I don't know what he was looking at. |

Yeah, the Late Kmart and Walmart sell guns up here. In a newspaper interview, they said they bucked the national store policy because "the profit margin was too large to ignore" or words to that effect. Anchorage is the only place in the country where stores can charge damn near full retail price for gunstuff. It is not due to a lack of FFLs, either. You can easily spend the day cruising the gun and well stocked pawnshops. |
